Go To

"Doom and Gloom" provides examples of:

  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: When Larry turns against Snaptrap, he takes over D.O.O.M, renaming it G.L.O.O.M., comitting crimes without telling T.U.F.F. his plans, and changing his name to Murray.
  • Basement-Dweller: G.L.O.O.M. Headquarters is located in the sewing room of Snaptrap's mom. Once Larry's evil plan to rob Petropolis succeeds, he, Ollie, and Francisco will be able to afford their own lair. Francisco likes this idea, because then he won't be able to run into Snaptrap's mom in the bathroom.
  • Book Ends: This episode begins and ends with Snaptrap announcing his evil plans to T.U.F.F., both of which involve him robbing a machine from a station while in disguise.
  • Comically Missing the Point: After Dudley and Kitty fail to stop Larry from hacking the Petropolis power plant, Kitty says "That Murray guy is good." Dudley then asks her why they have to stop him if he's good.
  • Dartboard of Hate: When Larry takes over Petropolis and T.U.F.F. is unable to stop him, Snaptrap takes out his aggression by tossing darts (and a wood axe) at pictures of Larry.
  • Disguised in Drag: Snaptrap disguises himself as a princess when he attempts to rob the gumball machine at the bus station.
  • Enemy Mine: Snaptrap helps Dudley and Kitty defeat Larry so he can reclaim D.O.O.M. and they can defeat Larry.
  • Exact Words: After arresting all the villains in Petropolis, Dudley decides to use his time off to break the world record for unicycle juggling, spending most of the episode sitting on a unicycle and juggling bowling pins. At the end of the episode, he appears to have broken the record, until Keswick informs him that unicycle juggling means juggling actual unicycles, not bowling pins.
  • Fun with Acronyms: G.L.O.O.M. stands for Genius Larry's Order Of Mayhem.
  • The Ghost: Snaptrap's mom doesn't make any physical appearances in this episode, but a picture of her can be seen on the wall when Larry's remote is launched out of his hands, and she is also revealed to be in the bathroom when Dudley comes out of it (much to the latter's horror).
  • Green Around the Gills: Francisco turns a pale shade of green after he drinks the milk that expired three to five years ago.
  • Hypercompetent Sidekick: Larry. He points out to Snaptrap that the reason they keep getting arrested by T.U.F.F. is because he keeps telling them their plans. Unfortunately, Snaptrap doesn't listen to him, which leads to Larry turning against him.
  • I Heard That: After T.U.F.F. successfully arrests every villain in Petropolis, Kitty tells the Chief that it helps that every one of them tells them where and when they're comitting their crimes. She then calls them Boobs, and upon hearing this, the Chameleon tells her, "Hello! These boobs have ears!"
  • Immediate Self-Contradiction: After Larry, Francisco, and Ollie all turn against him, Snaptrap says he doesn't need them anyway, since he's the only smart one. Immediately afterwards, he finds some three to five-year-old guacamole, eats it, and gets sick.
  • Invisibility: After arresting every villain in Petropolis, Keswick uses his time off to breed invisible tigers, which attack him. Because they're invisible, he has a hard time finding them.
  • Literal Metaphor:
    • After Larry quits D.O.O.M., Snaptrap says, "Sticks and stones, Larry!", then orders Ollie and Francisco to throw sticks and stones at Larry. When they hit Larry, he shouts "Ow! My bones!".
    • When Dudley and Kitty come to Snaptrap for help on how to defeat Larry, they find him literally grinding an axe and eating sour grapes (specifically, ones that went sour three to five years ago).
  • Mistreatment-Induced Betrayal: Larry turns against Snaptrap after the latter continues to ignore his advice against calling T.U.F.F. to tell them their plans and drops him in his shark tank. Francisco and Ollie also join Larry when Snaptrap threatens to drop them in the shark tank as well.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: This episode reveals that Snaptrap has a membership in the Justin Beaver fan club.
  • Not Allowed to Grow Up: Despite D.O.O.M.'s prison sentence lasting three to five years, nobody seems to have aged a day.
  • Ow, My Body Part!: Larry shouts "Ow, my bones!" when Ollie and Francisco throw sticks and stones at him.
  • Shout-Out: When Snaptrap disguises himself as a princess so he can rob the gumball machine at the bus station, he drives to the bus station in a car that resembles Cinderella's pumpkin carriage.
  • Shark Pool: Snaptrap launches Larry into his shark tank after telling T.U.F.F. his plans at the beginning of the episode. He does this again when Larry tries to talk him out of it after they're released from prison, at which point the sharks are extremely hungry, having not eaten in three to five years. When Larry quits, Snaptrap decides to drop Ollie and Francisco into the shark tank, but they turn against him and join Larry to avoid this fate. When Snaptrap is left all alone, a magazine cover reveals that at one point, he fell in his own shark tank and blamed Larry for it. At the end of the episode, after Dudley and Kitty defeat Larry, Snaptrap drops him, Ollie, and Francisco into the shark tank.
  • Spinning Paper: Used three times after Dudley and Kitty fail to stop Larry from hacking the Petropolis power plant. First, in a newspaper saying that Murray is good at being bad, second, in a newspaper saying that T.U.F.F. is helpless to stop Murray (and Dudley is nearing the unicycle juggling record), then finally, in a magazine that says that Snaptrap fell in his own shark tank and blamed Larry for it.
  • Stupid Evil: In this episode, it is revealed that Snaptrap calls T.U.F.F. to tell them his evil plan of the day so they can stop it. When Larry tells Snaptrap that it's not a good idea to tell T.U.F.F. his plans, Snaptrap tells them that the only reason he does so is because he feels it would be rude not to. This is despite the fact that as a villain, he has no obligation to be polite.
  • Suspiciously Specific Denial: When Snaptrap plays back the messages about the evil plans Larry sent him, the last message is from the Justin Beaver Fan Club confirming that his membership has been renewed. Snaptrap tells Dudley and Kitty that the fan club membership is for his niece and that he doesn't spend lonely nights listening to his music and lip-synching into a hairbrush.
  • That Man Is Dead: When Dudley tells Larry that Larry isn't a scary name, Larry changes his name to "Murray" because it's scarier.
  • Time Skip: Played for Laughs; when D.O.O.M. gets arrested, they get released from prison three to five years later, and throughout the episode, the characters refer to this sentence as such.
  • Way Past the Expiration Date:
    • When Snaptrap is released from prison, he finds a carton of milk he bought before he got arrested on his table, which has gone bad from sitting out for three to five years. He makes Francisco drink it to see if it's still fresh.
    • Snaptrap also finds some three to five-year-old guacamole on the table and eats it after his former D.O.O.M. teammates turn against him. Predictably, he gets sick.
  • X Days Since: After arresting every villain in Petropolis, T.U.F.F. has gone for 137 days with no evil plots to foil. After Larry successfully hacks the Petropolis power plant, the Chief changes the number on the sign to O.

"Law and Odor" provides examples of:

  • Anti-Villain: Percival the Pig, the intern of Stink Bug, is very polite. He also so bad at being evil that he ends up becoming T.U.F.F.'s intern.
  • Attack! Attack... Retreat! Retreat!: This exchange when Dudley and Kitty corner the Stink Bug at the locker room of Petropolis High School:
Kitty: Put your hands up, Stink Bug!
(Stink Bug does so, and his underarm odor melts Dudley and Kitty's blasters)
Kitty: Oh! Okay, put em' back down!
  • Drives Like Crazy: After successfully capturing the skunks with garlic breath, the Stink Bug accidentally crashes the Stink Buggy into a sign leading to Weehawken (which is 35 miles from Atlantic City). He then says that he stinks at driving.
  • Fartillery: Stink Bug's method of attack.
  • Getting Sick Deliberately: The Stink Bug gathers up everything stinky in Petropolis to create a giant stink bomb called the Air Unfreshener, which he plans to use to make all of Petropolis too stinky to bear. Dudley is unable to stop him due to having a super-sensitive nose. Meanwhile, Keswick is revealed to have gotten a cold from licking a handrail at a hospital, rendering him unable to smell anything. When Dudley finds out, he gets Keswick to make him sick so he can't smell anything and will be able to foil the Stink Bug's plan.
  • Green Around the Gills:
    • Percival's face turns a pale shade of green after the Stink Bug (who has eaten limburger cheese) burps at him.
    • Dudley's face also turns a sickly green whenever he smells the Stink Bug's odor.
  • Minion with an F in Evil: Percival. Because of his repeated incompetence, Stink Bug fired him when he pulled out a sign for his stink bomb known as "Air Unfreshener". This would lead him to side with T.U.F.F. in the end.
  • Rule of Three: The three ingredients that the Stink Bug uses to make his Air Unfreshener are limburger cheese, sweaty gym socks, and skunks with garlic breath.
  • Running Gag: Throughout this episode, Dudley ends every description of how bad the Stink Bug smells with "in Atlantic City!"
  • Shout-Out: This episode's title is a reference to the 1990-2010 courtroom drama series, Law & Order.
  • Sick Episode: Keswick is revealed to have caught a cold from licking a handrail at a hospital. When Dudley is unable to stop the Stink Bug from stealing everything stinky in Petropolis due to his super-sensitive nose, he gets Keswick to infect him so he can't smell anything and will be able to foil the Stink Bug's plan. At the end of the episode, Keswick recovers, but when he smells the Stink Bug's stench, he gets Dudley to sneeze on him, Kitty, and the Chief so they can get sick and won't be able to smell it.
  • Smelly Skunk: One of the ingredients that the Stink Bug steals for his Air Unfreshener is a busload of skunks on their way from a garlic festival... in Atlantic City! Kitty gets sprayed by the skunks twice.
  • Spaghetti Kiss: One of the ways Dudley tries to infect himself with Keswick's cold is by sharing a spaghetti dinner with Keswick so they can kiss other.
  • Tomato Skunk Stink Cure: Twice in this episode, Kitty gets sprayed by a group of skunks when they get scared. She's later seen being lowered into a vat of tomato juice.
  • Trap Door: The Stink Bug sends Percival down one after firing him. He then says he hopes Percival installed spikes at the bottom like he asked him to. Upon hearing this, Percival tells him he didn't, as it seemed wrong.
  • Worthless Yellow Rocks: While he robs the lockers at Petropolis High School, the Stink Bug finds diamonds and gold, but tosses them aside, as his focus is on stealing sweaty gym socks.
