Recap / Trollz E 20 The Day The Magic Died

Go To

Still jealous of the girls being able to use magic when they can't, the boys sneak into the Amber Caves in the hope of getting some amber for themselves. Meanwhile, Ruby wants to apologize to Rock for the ghost dog incident, but can't find him. Simon is also lurking, and he traps the boys, then lures the girls to the Caves with Coal's hoverboard so he can take their magic as well. The girls fend him and Snarf off with their magic, but Alabaster's technology has pinpointed the ceremonial chamber. The boys eagerly try some of the amber, but it doesn't work well, and it devolves into a fight. The girls find them and are horrified at the misuse of the sacred amber.

When Simon returns, the girls try the Magic of the Five to seal him away, but it's greatly amplified by all the amber and ends up causing a cave-in, sealing the door to the chamber. Sapphire realizes that with a spell that strong it could never wear off. Ruby tries a small spell to open the door, but it's still amplified and ricochets around the room. When Rock dodges, he falls and dislodges the Sacred Altar from its position. The doorway opens, but Trollzopolis has changed for the worse—none of the magic-enhanced technology works, nor do spell beads. Scared and confused, the girls and boys head to Obsidian for advice.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Bond Villain Stupidity: After luring the BFFL into a trap, Simon tells them his plan and Topaz wonders why he does things like telling his plans. Onyx says it's what villains do.
  • The Bully: Jasper mocks Alabaster for being a nerd and scares him for fun while they're walking through the caves.
  • Diving Save: Topaz saves Alabaster from getting crushed by a giant chunk of falling amber.
  • A Dog Ate My Homework: Parodied. Snarf ate Simon's map because he thought it was homework.
  • Downer Ending: The BFFL discover that magic in Trollzopolis has disappeared, and are left at a loss.
  • Lovable Coward: Alabaster is only willing to go into the Amber Caves because he has the encouragement of the other boys.
  • Magitek: When the Sacred Altar is broken and magic disappears, it's shown that most of the Troll technology uses magic as a power source at some level. The results include mass blackouts and more.
  • Never Say "Die": Lampshaded.
Amethyst: Ruby was going to tell the boys that she's sorr—
Ruby: I thought we weren't going to say the s-word. Besides, I'm just apologizing to Rock!
Amethyst: But Rock almost died when—
Ruby: We weren't going to say the d-word either.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Alabaster, Jasper and Flint eventually set the altar right, but its dislodgement negates all magic for the girls.
  • Not So Above It All: Alabaster reasons that the boys' lack of magic is the way of the world. However, he's not above going to the Amber Caves with the rest of them to try and get magic.
  • Only Sane Man: Coal is the only one trying to stop the other boys from trying to get magic for themselves.
  • Roar Before Beating: Alabaster attempts this when one of the boys throws sacred amber at him and he tries to throw it back. He ends up getting hit in the face by more amber instead.
