This story contains examples of:
- Brutal Honesty: The reason why Applejack sends Twilight in to try and talk Rarity out of her "crusade"? Diplomacy is "too much like lying" for Applejack to be good at it, so she probably would have just offended her.
- Blue-and-Orange Morality: Sort of; Rarity's idea of "scary" is mostly based on fashion and the (somewhat more justifiable) damage that excess sugar and no oral hygiene can do to teeth. Also, if someone shows up whose costume is lackluster, in her eyes, she will alter it for them. Whether they want it or not.
- Nightmare Fetishist: Discussed at the end, when some of the Mane 6 note that some ponies, despite knowing better, seem to keep coming back to Rarity's place year after year.
