Recap / Transformers Prime S 1 E 4 Darkness Rising Part 4

Go To

Megatron arrives to reveal his plan: he intends to make an army of reanimated corpses to conquer everything. Meanwhile, the Autobots try to save Agent Fowler from the Decepticons. However, Jack Darby's resolve may be faltering amidst all the battles...

Tropes:

  • Asshole Victim: Bad Boss tendencies aside, giving what Starscream had done in the past (Killing off Clijumper in cold Energon and offering his corpse as a test subject, blowing up the mine with the Autobots in it) and especially this and the previous episode (which was against Megatron's orders) it's hard to feel bad for the con as Megatron beats him up as it's almost cathartic.
  • Bad Boss: In one of the first many moments in the series, Megatron. He not only berates Starscream for disobeying him, but he also beats him.
  • Back-to-Back Badasses: Optimus and Ratchet versus Megatron's undead army. At the end, there's a massive pile of scrap and the two Autobots are mildly injured.
  • Clown-Car Grave: Well, it was a battlefield...
  • Dare to Be Badass: Miko tries this on Jack after he refuses the Call the second time, but it doesn't work, at least not on the spot.
  • Disappointed in You: Since the kids almost got killed, Optimus starts chewing out Bulkhead (despite that he left Arcee in charge) until Miko has to step forward and confess her mistakes.
  • Due to the Dead: That Megatron is desecrating Cybertronian graves angers Optimus and Ratchet almost as much as the fact that he's using the ensuing zombies to kill them.
Ratchet: Megatron has desecrated the resting place of our fallen ancestors... and his own!
Optimus: Not even the dead are free from his war-mongering.
  • Dumbass Has a Point: In response to Jack calling out Miko for getting a thrill from situations where other people are in danger, Miko points out she was in just as much danger herself and that Jack and Raf didn't have to follow her.
  • Jerkass Ball: Miko pulls one by at first telling Jack and Raf they should form a trio band to play music, but then immediately ditches them just to see Bulkhead in action. When Jack calls her out, Miko claims she doesn't need to give them any reason or a notice in advance to go solo.
  • Lethally Stupid: Jack accuses Miko of this when she again brushes off that fact that she, Raf, and himself could have been killed several times due to her thrill-seeking earlier. This won't be the last time.
  • Mexican Standoff: Bulkhead, Bumblebee, and Arcee vs. Starscream vs. Fowler
  • Misplaced Retribution: Did Optimus forget that Arcee was supposed to be in charge? He tells Bulkhead off, but Bulkhead wasn't supposed to be in charge in the first place. Of course, Optimus could simply have been referring to the fact Bulkhead got the kids in danger (which, admittedly, was in part his fault).
  • Mythology Gag:
    • As in part 1, Cybertron appears with the same model as that used in War for Cybertron.
    • Optimus's response to Jack wanting to leave is very similar to the response Optimus Prime gave to Theodore Galloway in Revenge of the Fallen.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: As Megatron best puts it, Starscream's agenda just resulted in the delay of his plan with the disabling of his ship. Honestly, the seeker was lucky he had already an idea to set things back in motion.
  • Refusal of the Call: Jack near the end of the episode.
  • Screw This, I'm Out of Here!: After their escape from the Nemesis, Jack promptly severs ties with the Autobots.
  • Still Got It: Even though Ratchet hasn't fought since the war, he still chops through Terrorcons with ease.
  • The Only One Allowed to Defeat You: As Starscream learns during a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown from Megatron as he lays down the law.
Megatron: No one rids me of Optimus Prime but me! Do you understand?! DO YOU?!
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Miko tells Jack that he was meant for greater things, and that he shouldn't walk away from the Autobots.
  • What Were You Thinking?: Jack asks this of Miko for the first time. It won't be the last.
