Recap / Transformers G 1 Traitor

Go To

The Decepticons have stolen electro cells, and it's up to the Autobots to try and get them back before serious harm is done. To make matters worse, Cliffjumper has become convinced that Mirage is a Decepticon spy, and it's getting harder to deny it...

Tropes:

  • Accidental Hero: For making a dumb mistake, Megatron was about to shoot Starscream...only for the Autobots to fly in and give them bigger problems to worry about.
  • Batman Gambit: What Mirage attempted on the Decepticons and Insecticons, knowing that none of the Decepticon factions trust each other. The only reason it failed was because he was seen while trying to leave.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: What happens to Mirage after he's hit with an Insecticon cerebero shell.
  • Can't Kill You, Still Need You: How the Insecticons realize Megatron didn't betray them; he still needs them to destroy the Autobots.
  • The Cavalry: A villainous version; to keep the Autobots from the electro shells, Soundwave calls in the Insecticons, who quickly turn the tide of the battle.
  • Chronic Backstabbing Disorder: The Decepticons and Insecticons don't trust one another, because both are prone to this trope. Mirage uses this against them when setting up his Batman Gambit, and it would have worked had he not been caught.
  • A Day in the Limelight: For Mirage.
  • Easily Forgiven: Mirage doesn't seem too mad at Cliffjumper for calling him a spy (it helps that Cliffjumper clearly felt guilty for what he'd said).
  • I Can Still Fight!: Despite being injured during an earlier fight with the Decepticons, Mirage refuses to rest after Ratchet fixes him, and goes back out into the field.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: Starscream tries to speed up the process of getting Energon from the electro cells, saying that his way is faster/better than Megatron's...only for this to backfire and almost kill them all via a massive explosion.
  • Invisibility: One of Mirage's powers, using it to help pull off his Batman Gambit. Unfortunately he gets caught by Starscream as it doesn't hide his footsteps.
  • Jerkass to One: Cliffjumper is the one who first accuses Mirage of being a spy, and doesn't ease up on him until the end of the episode.
  • Look Behind You: Starscream corners Cliffjumper, who shouts that Optimus Prime is behind him. Starscream panics, and gets shot by Cliffjumper, who takes a minute to snark at him for it before going back to the battle.
  • Made of Explodium: The electro cells are highly unstable, and could explode at any time.
  • Mistaken for Betrayal: Mirage's Batman Gambit has Cliffjumper believe the former is a spy.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Cliffjumper's reaction to learning that Mirage was being controlled, and that he didn't willingly betray them.
  • Ramming Always Works: Cliffjumper uses this to knock down Starscream.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Optimus Prime refuses to believe that Mirage is a spy without undeniable proof. When Mirage is working against the Autobots for a brief period, Optimus immediately realizes outside forces are at play.
  • The Starscream: Starscream is himself in this episode.
  • What You Are in the Dark: Only the viewers and Decepticons know the truth about Mirage's Batman Gambit, with the other Autobots not knowing that he came close to ending the Insecticon/Decepticon alliance.
  • When He Smiles: Ratchet, one of the most serious Autobots, laughs when Mirage and Cliffjumper make up via playfully wrestling.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Bombshell almost terminates Mirage after kicking his unconscious body doesn't wake him up.
