Recap / Transformers G 1 The Golden Lagoon

Go To

Amidst a skirmish with some Decepticons, Beachcomber stumbles upon a beautiful glen and is fascinated with the flora and fauna there. However, his further discovery of a mysterious body of gold liquid is also found by some Decepticons, which Megatron intends to use against the Autobots...

  • Bittersweet Ending: The Autobots have successfully outwitted the Decepticons and prevented them from fully using the electrum, but the glen is destroyed. If that's not enough, the episode ends with Beachcomber sitting on a rock overlooking the environment and mournfully letting out a solemn "We won...".
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Omega Supreme's firepower does nothing to the Decepticons coated in electrum. Then, he is quickly downed by their firepower in seconds.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Beachcomber takes center stage with his friendly nature to all living things on full display here.
  • Friend to All Living Things: Beachcomber, upon discovering the glen, is surrounded by its native animals who don't mind him coming around.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: The Decepticons manage to get the upper hand when they dip into the lake of electrum and easily defeat many of the Autobots, including Omega Supreme, but then the Autobots also discover the same lake thanks to Beachcomber. As a result, they end up having to witness their firepower having no effect on the Autobots... and then the electrum coating wears off, leaving them vulnerable at last.
  • Pyrrhic Victory: As stated in Bittersweet Ending, the Autobots have prevented the Decepticons from using the electrum but at the cost of the glen. Beachcomber isn't happy over this victory, especially since it carried a heavy cost.
    Beachcomber: We won...
  • No MacGuffin, No Winner: As the electrum coating wears off, Megatron orders his troops to shoot at the lake of electrum to prevent the Autobots from using it at all.
Megatron: If we can't have it, nobody can!!!
  • No-Sell: When the Decepticons get coated with electrum, they are impervious to the Autobots' firepower. Even Omega Supreme's attacks do absolutely nothing to them.
    Omega Supreme: Results: Disappointing.
  • Soundtrack Dissonance: The Autobots' regular victory theme is played over the closing of the episode as Beachcomber mourns the destruction of the glen, possibly as a form of irony over this "victory".
  • We Win, Because You Didn't: The Autobots end up engaging the Decepticons, eventually winning because Megatron is forced to shoot the electrum lake to ensure the Autobots don't use it at all... which also deprives the Decepticons of their latest trump card.
