In a plot to drain the Sun for power, the Decepticons capture and alter the grumpy Autobot Gears.
Tropes
- Artistic License – Geography: The Autobots somehow manage to drive from their base in the Western United States to Africa in less than 2 Earth hours. In addition, it appears to be roughly the same time of day as when the Autobots left their base once they arrive, even though they have travelled through at least eight time zones.
- Blatant Lies: Trailbreaker claims that the Autobots prefer Gears as he is even though Ironhide had been mad about the Decepticons's reprogramming.
- Cassandra Truth: Prime tries to warn Megatron that his Solar Needle will destroy everyone on Earth, including themselves. However, Megatron doesn't believe Prime, keeping his invention running.
- Extreme Doormat: Gears becomes one after having his special circuit removed.
- Fighting from the Inside: Gears tries to fight his altered personality by staying true to who he is and helping his friends whenever he could. In addition, at the end, he says he's gonna start kicking transistors if the Autobots don't give him his circuit back,
- I Have Your Wife: Megatron gets the Autobots to surrender by threatening to kill Prime if they don't.
- Look Behind You: Starscream refuses to fall for this. Unfortunately for him, Gears wasn't trying to trick him.
- More Expendable Than You: Ironhide states this when trying to convince Prime not to go through with his plan to deactivate the forcefield. Cliffjumper ends up being the one to pull the plan off (don't worry, he survives).
- No One Could Survive That!: In order to deactivate the Decepticon forcefield protecting the Solar Needle, someone must jump through the hole at the top where the Sun's energy is coming through and block it. As doing so is extremely dangerous, Ratchet believes that not even Prime would be able to survive up there.
- The Pollyanna: Gears after having his circuit removed.
- We Want Our Jerk Back!: Once the autobots find Gears brainwashed by the Decepticons, we get this quote from Ironhide.
Ironhide: What did you do to Gears, you monster? You turned him...nice!
