Go To

Tropes

  • Central Theme: Traditions and what they can mean to different people.
  • Commonality Connection:
    • Alex and Bumblebee bond over their love for and knowledge of Philippine traditions and having both spent time in Philippine cities, with Alex growing up in Bohol and Bumblebee having won drag races at the Tagbilaran City Airport.
    • Twitch and Wheeljack confide in each other about feeling like they don't fit in on Earth.
  • Dual Wielding: Alex, Bumblebee, Twitch and eventually Robbie all equip themselves with two sticks for the Wakwak Hunt. Robbie and Alex later wield said sticks with great efficiency against the arachnamechs attacking them.
  • Foreshadowing: When Alex sees Wheeljack's captured Arachnamech, he mentions that a former colleague of his used to work with machines like it.
  • Instant Expert: Twitch gains complete mastery over her drone-mode's functions the second Wheeljack tells her about them. Even Wheeljack is impressed by how quickly she learns.
  • Not So Above It All: Despite acting bored at first and claiming he's too old for it afterwards, Robbie was obviously scared by his father's Wakwak story. Later in the woods, he at first mistakes the arachnamechs' noises for Wakwak warning signs.
  • Papa Wolf:
    • Alex completely demolishes several arachnamechs when he sees them threatening Robbie.
    • Wheeljack throws Twitch out of harm's way to protect her from an advancing horde of arachnamechs.
  • Parental Substitute: Zig-zagged. After finding out Wheeljack made the drone she scanned to get her altmode, Twitch immediately dubs him her "Dad 2". Not because she finds Alex lacking in any way, it's just a connection she naturally makes.
  • Parents as People: While Wheeljack does warm up to Twitch over the course of the episode and comes to accept his role as her "Dad 2", it's made painfully clear that he's too absentminded to cover her emotional needs.
  • Shown Their Work: The episode. An integral part of the plot is the hunt for the Wakwak, a creature from Philipine mythology and Philipine culture in general plays a big role here.
