Recap / Tracker S1E8 "Children of the Night"

Go To

Cole spots a face he recognizes from the train station ATM camera on a milk carton. He and Mel visit the home of the teenager, whose name is Jordan Baylor, and speak with his mother. They learn that Jordan was on the train and conclude by his sudden asthma that the fugitive Sirez has trouble adjusting to his human body. Meanwhile, Sirez is going around luring the homeless to a secret lab, where the aliens are trying to perfect a means to transfer an alien consciousness to a new human host. Cole and Mel manage to track him down, but Sirez runs away and dives into Lake Michigan. Cole realizes he's Nodulian and can stay underwater indefinitely, so they leave. Mel reluctantly agrees to cover for Jess at the bar, which just happens to be packed with drunk football fans. Cole invites a homeless girl named Tina to take a shower at Mel's place, much to Mel's chagrin. Cole sympathizes with Tina, but she runs away after hearing Mel bring up social services. Sirez runs into her on the street and, needing healthier subjects for the experiment, kidnaps her. Cole locates a closed-down pool that a Nodulian would need and saves Tina just in time. Cole stops Sirez and takes his life force. Then he helps Tine reunite with her estranged father.

  • Brain Uploading: Zin's scientists are trying to perfect the transfer of alien life force from one human body to another. They haven't had much luck so far, especially since Sirez keeps bringing them the malnourished, sickly bodies of the homeless, who can't handle the strain.
  • Deliberate Values Dissonance: Cole is shocked at the fact that some people are forced to live in cardboard boxes on the street.
  • Literal-Minded: While Cole is getting better at discerning humor, he still honestly answers to Tina's sarcastic "What planet are you from?" with "Cirron."
  • She Cleans Up Nicely: Tina, after a shower and change of clothes, to the point where Sirez doesn't recognize her, even though he saw her a few days ago.
  • Super Not-Drowning Skills: Nodulians spend much of their lives underwater on their home planet. As such, it's pretty much impossible for them to drown. Cole does, however, determine that the water in Lake Michigan lacks the high concentrations of zinc Nodulians require to survive. Sirez takes daily swims in an abandoned pool, which he fills with zinc.
