Recap / Totally Spies S 5 E 2 Evil Roommate

Go To

On the spies first day of at Mali-U, they discover that they have been split up into different dorm rooms. While Alex and Clover are rooming together, Sam finds herself sharing a dorm with a sweet girl named Stacey. However things with Sam's roommate aren't what they seem and when Sam goes missing after investigating Stacey, it's up to Clover and Alex to find their missing friend and save the day.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Asian and Nerdy: The student who Stacy kidnaps at the beginning of the episode is the smartest student in the current freshman class.
  • Badass in Distress: Clover and Alex have to rescue Sam when her investigation gets her captured by her evil roommate.
  • Berserk Button: Stacy shrieks in rage when Clover points out that a lot of Stacey's intelligence comes from her victims who she trapped in the machine.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Stacy originally presents herself as being friendly and outgoing, but it turns out that she is the one responsible for kidnapping the missing students and draining them of their intelligence which wrecks havoc on their physiological functions, with Sam being her latest victim.
  • Cassandra Truth: When Sam confides to her friends that there is something up with her roommate after Stacy snaps at Sam for providing an answer to a question that their professor originally asked the former, the two of them originally brush off her concerns. It isn't until Sam goes missing and they have an unpleasant encounter with Stacey when they confront her that they realize that their friend might have been right.
  • Conveyor Belt o' Doom: Clover and Alex find themselves on one and have several seconds to find a way to escape or else be incinerated.
  • Dumb Blonde: Zigzagged. Stacy is far from dumb due to her being in the same high level classes as Sam as well as having built a machine that can drain people of their intelligence and download it into her own mind. But Sam upstages her in class at one point by answering a question that their professor originally asked Stacey and rather than hitting the books and studying like most people would she instead steals other people's intelligence to add on to her own.
  • Evil Laugh: Stacy lets out one as she breaks into the library for the sake of looking for more victims to steal intelligence from.
  • Elevator Failure: This happens to the first victim. Rather than her elevator going up, it starts to descend towards the basement where Stacy is presumably waiting for her to put her into the machine and steal her intelligence.
  • Is Nothing Sacred?: Clover pretty much says this word for word to Jerry when he tells them that their compowders are also capable of measuring their biometrics.
  • Put on a Bus: Jerry reassigned G.L.A.D.I.S to the W.O.O.H.P recycling facility due to her attitude.
  • Skewed Priorities: When Alex and Clover foil Stacey's plans, she tries to run off screaming that they ruined everything and that because of them she's going to fail all her classes. Never mind the fact that she kidnapped several other students and endangered their lives because her machine was causing their brains to function at an abnormally low rate.
  • Squick: Alex sweating herself out of the ropes that tied her up before she and Clover are incinerated to death.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: As Clover points out once they escape from the Conveyor Belt o' Doom, Stacey's creation is a huge machine that is far from subtle so it shouldn't be hard to track it down. Not even a second later they hear an explosion and screaming coming from the direction of the library and immediately pinpoint that was where Stacy went.
