Go To

The teams are launched into a deep dark challenge filled cave. Jasmine is revealed to be claustrophobic, Topher becomes obsessed with a possible call from the network, and Sugar tries to sabotage Dave and Sky's budding relationship to prevent them from turning against her.

Tropes:

  • Anachronistic Clue: Scarlett figures that the cave can’t be the ancient Crée cavern it’s claimed to be due to having a functioning elevator with carpeting and Muzak. Max just suggests that they had taste.
  • Anti-Climax: The reward for the challenge is... nothing, because Chris wasn't happy about how the contestants got out of the caverns at the end.
  • Ant Assault: Ants infest Pimapotew Kinosewak's tree house. Max sets flame to them with a magnifying glass on his own bed, inevitably causing the sheets to burn too. Somehow, he thinks it's the ants that put his sheets aflame.
  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: Shawn takes a crystal from Bling Bear's cave because he likes how shiny it was.
  • By the Hair: During a confessional, Scarlett shares that her brother pulled her hair once. In retaliation, she made his remote controlled toys attack him every night for six years.
  • Comically Missing the Point: Max towards Scarlett's points about the cave.
  • Crystal Landscape: While travelling underground, the Wâneyihtam Maskwak enter the Gem Cave of Pahkitew Island. This area is chock-full of red gems that are both identified as rubies and as diamonds. The Gem Cave is the domain of Bling Bear, who knows if someone takes a gem and does not respond kindly to it. This would've been an easy danger to avoid for the team were it not for Shawn's attraction to shiny gems. Bling Bear does not give up the chase until the team jumps into the outhouse's waste.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Max tries to use a magnifying glass to fry ants, only to set his bed on fire. He blames the ants.
  • Epic Fail: Every contestant on both teams fail to do the challenge properly.
  • Erotic Dream: For a hot second, reality and dream blur into one as Sky wakes up. Dave is standing over her to offer her berries for breakfast, but what she perceives is an extremely muscular and shirtless Dave offering her a ring and asking her to be his jungle queen.
  • Grievous Harm with a Body: A claustrophobia-powered Jasmine is determined to reach the surface and isn't about to let dirt or a gopher army stop her. So, she uses Topher as battering ram.
  • Hair-Trigger Avalanche: The campers are forced into an underground cave system and have to make it out on their own. To his credit, Chris only whispers to them while they are there, as loud noises trigger cave-ins. Jasmine, Sugar, and Max all get into situations that provoke them into yelling the ceiling down.
  • Not Me This Time: Someone from the Wâneyihtam Maskwak takes a crystal from the gem cave, which causes Bling Bear to attack the team. Sky reasons that Sugar is the thief because of her earlier claim on anything that sparkles, but it's actually Shawn who turns out to be something of a magpie.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Apparently Shawn would rather let zombies eat his brain than ally with Sugar.
  • Palm-Fist Tap: When they're threatened by a crocodile, Scarlett taps her palm with her fist as she recognizes that this is the perfect opportunity to get rid of Max. It's less that he gets eaten, and more that he gets delayed and will cause the team to lose, upon which he'll be voted off.
  • Relationship Sabotage:
    • Sugar doesn't like that Dave and Sky are heading for a romance-alliance and sets out to disrupt any further progress. Whenever they have a moment, she's there to ruin it. By the end of the episode, she no longer has to bother because Chris makes Sky and Max switch teams.
    • Chris announces that he's breaking up Scarlett and Max because their romantic development would make for an unfair alliance. To prevent the team sizes from becoming unbalanced, he has Max switch teams with Sky. This creates some uncertainty which relationship Chris is actually targeting. Although Scarlett and Max seem close, they are not romantically involved, which Chris may or may not know from confessional footage. Meanwhile, Sky and Dave are close to forming a relationship, which plenty of people know about. In either case, splitting up Scarlett and Max changes nothing about them, while splitting up Dave and Sky becomes the start of the downfall of their romance.
  • Screw This, I'm Out of Here!: Chris and Chef briefly prepare to flee when it looks like the kids are dead.
  • Skewed Priorities: Topher spends the entire challenge worried about receiving a phone call rather than the fact that he and Jasmine are lost in a cave.
  • Solar-Powered Magnifying Glass: Ants infest Pimapotew Kinosewak's tree house. Max, being only a small-minded villain, turns a magnifying glass on them and burns several to death before his own bed catches fire. Somehow, he thinks it's the ants that put his sheets aflame.
  • Star-Crossed Lovers: Dave and Sky are sent onto different teams. Chris tried to invoke this by separating Scarlett and Max, but not only are the two not in a relationship, but Scarlett absolutely hates Max's guts. He most likely knows this but is saying it’s Scarlett and Max to get a reaction out of Scarlett for drama. Which he succeeds at doing.
  • Suck Out the Poison: After being bitten in his butt by a mechanical crocodile, Max demands that Scarlett sucks the poison out. Scarlett refuses and tries to tune his multiple levels of idiocy out, but at least informs him that crocodiles aren't venomous.
  • Toilet Humor: Dave and company crawl out of the outhouse confessional.
  • Troubled Fetal Position: Jasmine goes into a squatting fetal position twice when dealing with her claustrophobia. One time, Chris mimics her position to mock her.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Jasmine is claustrophobic.
