Recap / Total Drama: "Get a Clue"

Go To

The cast is taken on a train for a murder mystery challenge.. which quickly turns into an investigation of Chris' murder.

Tropes:

  • Chalk Outline: Chris is seemingly killed, so Lindsay decides to do the proper movie thing by drawing his "shadow align thing". Because she doesn't have chalk on her, she uses ruby lipstick. A little bit into her work, she looks up in wonder and asks the other contestants why they do that in movies anyway and if it's meant to be colored in later.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The snacks that Courtney was seen eating earlier in the episode, are later used as evidence that SHE was responsible for Chris’ murder (which Lindsay solved).
  • Faking the Dead: Chris.
  • Kiss of Life: Chris plays a trick on the contestants by pretending to be murdered. He leaves a rubber copy of himself in his place, which Harold gives CPR on Courtney's orders. He tries very hard, but obviously can't get "Chris" to start breathing again.
  • Left the Background Music On: The two-tone Scare Chord is actually Harold with his miniature keyboard.
  • Misplaced Retribution: Duncan is initially thought to be the one behind Chris's murder, on account of a strand of green hair being seen near Chris's body. This turned out to be a Red Herring.
  • Running Gag:
    • Courtney whining about Chris not giving her a prize for solving the first part of the challenge, despite Chris never saying that there was a prize for the first part of the challenge.
    • Harold playing a two-tone Scare Chord. Lindsay even gets in on it once.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Tar and Feathers: Harold tries to stop the moving train by throwing something at the wheels to block them. First he throws a bottle of soda pop. It bursts open and the sticky substances splashes all over Harold. Next he throws a pillow. It also bursts open and the feathers blast all over Harold. Due to the layer of soda pop, the feathers stick to him.
  • Thriller on the Express: A classic example that harkens back to old thriller films based on trains.
  • Troll: Lindsay wins in the end and the prize is a night at the movies. She gets to bring one guest with her, and she picks Duncan because she knows it will annoy Courtney so much.
  • Whole-Plot Reference: To Murder on the Orient Express.

Harold's Keyboard

At several points in the episode, a two-tone Scare Chord is played, which is really just Harold with his miniature keyboard.

How well does it match the trope?
