Recap / Total Drama: "Aftermath III: O-wen or Lose"

Go To

Geoff's increasingly Jerkass antics are really getting on Bridgettes nerves, who thinks that he has gone too far, and attempts to stop it. Owen, Heather and Leshawna are interviewed in this Aftermath.

Tropes:

  • All-Loving Hero: Owen really isn't mad at anyone despite all the hardships he's gone through in this season. He's also not too worried about the fact that his family is broke after buying a cheese cellar (for obvious reasons).
  • Art Shift: Like in "The Sucky Outdoors", Owen's flashbacks about the bad things he did in the past are drawn in a crayon-like artstyle.
  • Ash Face: Anyone who's electrocuted in the chair gets this.
  • Bear Trap: In the "That's Gonna Leave a Mark!" segment, an outtake of "Oceans Eight.... Or Nine" shows Duncan not just keeling over upon discovering that the bank teller is Courtney, but keeling over into a giant bear trap that's set up next to the decor. It clamps down around his waist.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Bridgette finally loses it with Geoff's increasing sadism and narcissism in this episode, angrily breaking up with him on live TV and then teaming up with Heather, Leshawna, and Owen to make him do his own Truth or Electrocution challenge to finally knock his senses back into him.
  • Big Eater: Owen, as usual. He even points out that he has had a bit of a problem with eating after having his jaw unwired, resulting in him getting ten pounds heavier.
  • Blatant Lies: Heather says that the electro-shock therapy she got as a child made her a better person.
  • Call-Back: Heather asking Geoff who he believes to be the hottest girl on the show is a call-back to the first Aftermath episode where he admitted he thinks it's Heather.
  • Easily Forgiven: In the previous episode, Justin, Duncan, and Courtney convinced Harold to vote off Leshawna. While she is mad at Duncan (whom she believed bullied Harold into voting for her elimination) and Courtney (whom she calls "cutthroat" for getting to Harold), she holds no resentment towards Justin for this.
  • Electric Torture: The newest lie detector is an electric chair, though Geoff assures that it's low voltage.
  • Feud Episode: Another one between Geoff and Bridgette, though much more extreme.
  • Flipping the Bird: In the "That's Gonna Leave a Mark!" segment, an outtake of "One Million Bucks B.C." shows Chef bumping into a yeti's golf cart with his own. The yeti gets a case of road rage and slams a club into Chef's golf cart before flipping him off.
  • Foreshadowing: Among the problems that Owen lists is his love of dairy, we find out later in the episode that his family bought a cheese cellar.
  • Groin Attack: Tonight's edition of ”That’s Gonna Leave a Mark!” has one part dedicated to just nut shots on Justin, Duncan and especially Harold, who in one scene hits himself in the groin with his yo-yo thrice.
  • Guilty Pleasure: Heather is shown to be a fan of doing num-yo tricks.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: After two Aftermaths of being a Jerkass, Geoff finally gets his comeuppance and gets electrocuted.
  • Not So Above It All: Leshawna admits that she was impressed by Harold's num-yo tricks.
  • Pun-Based Title: The title is a play on the phrase "win or lose".
  • Replacement Goldfish: Once again, the truth segment's lie detector changes, this time to an electric chair.
  • Ship Tease: Whether romantic, platonic, or strategic, it's revealed in this episode that Leshawna, Heather, and Courtney were all separately spying on Harold playing with his num-yos at some point. We don't see Courtney's reaction as it's her hidden camera we are watching, but Heather and Leshawna both have very impressed smiles on their faces and Heather even tries unsuccessfully to imitate Harold's moves.
    • Leshawna admits in an affectionate tone of voice that, while she wants to keep things between him strictly platonic, she likes Harold a lot and wonders how other people can resist his "little man biceps". Geoff making fun of said biceps are what get Leshawna to retaliate against his bad attitude.
  • Shout-Out: Owen's misguided confession rant is almost exactly the same as the one from The Goonies.
  • Slippery Soap: In the "That's Gonna Leave a Mark!" segment, an outtake of "One Million Bucks B.C.", Harold walks into the guys' trailer and slips on a piece of soap. It goes flying, bounces off of the wall, and hits Harold in the nuts before he even gets to fall.
  • So Proud of You: While Bridgette, Leshawna, and Owen call Geoff out for becoming a bigger Jerkass in the "Aftermath" segments, Heather tells him that she's proud of him.
  • Spoiler Title: Now that the viewers are aware of what Aftermath episodes are about, the extended title of the episode spoils Owen being eliminated between the second Aftermath episode and this one.
  • Tell Him I'm Not Speaking to Him: After she breaks up with Geoff over his growing jerkassery, Bridgette has Owen forward everything she wants to say to Geoff.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Near the end of the episode, Brigette, Leshawana, and Owen call out Geoff for becoming a Chris clone and demand to know what's happened to him.
