Recap / Total Drama: "Aftermath III: Aftermath Aftermayhem"

Go To

The third Aftermath is the wildest yet, with five losers given a chance to return to the competition. Bridgette is in Siberia, sent away by a jealous Blaineley, who wishes to reclaim her previous TV fame.

Tropes:

  • Accidental Truth: Geoff's "The Villain Sucks" Song includes the line "She's just so full of you-know-what, she has to double flush the can." Rather than deny this, Blaineley protests that she eats a lot of fiber.
  • Achievement In Ignorance: Lindsay successfully balances the meatballs on her nose like a seal without even realizing that was the challenge.
  • Amicable Exes: Again, Gwen and Trent. While awkward at first, Trent seems to have taken well that Gwen is now dating Duncan, even though he was one of the reasons they broke up.
  • Artistic License – Film Production: Apparently, Geoff and Blaineley won't get paid if the Aftermath goes over its runtime, which the former takes advantage of by deliberately dragging out the broadcast to get back at Blaineley, and it ends up costing Blaineley when, in an attempt to hurry things along so that they don’t go over time, she states the correct answer of the challenge question to Beth so that they can complete, which ends up causing Blainley to be the one to enter the competition. In actuality, not paying the talent would be highly unethical in an actual television production.
  • Bag of Kidnapping: In order to prevent being sent to Siberia herself, Blaineley captures Bridgette in a bag. She first tries to dump the bag in a mail truck, but when that idea shows holes, Blaineley drives over to the airport to personally get the bag on the mail plane to Siberia.
  • Ball-Balancing Seal: Lindsay is challenged to balance three Swedish meatballs on her nose. She does so while barking like a seal. Oddly, she did this with the meatballs before knowing this was her challenge.
  • Balloon Belly: With the help of secret footage, Geoff reveals that Blaineley has a permanent balloon belly. She has trained herself to hold it in while in public.
  • Battle Cry: Beth does this before she chases an intern dressed as Jack the Ripper as part of the final task of the Second Chance challenge.
  • Bears Are Bad News: Bruno, the bear Bridgette befriends in Siberia starts out as this. A different bear walks behind Gwen as she goes onto the stage, but is pulled right back by the interns.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: When Geoff found out that Blaineley sent Bridgette to Siberia, he got so enraged that he swore to have revenge on Blaineley.
  • Big "NO!": Blaineley gives one after she has to go and compete on Total Drama. She gives one prior when Geoff reveals that he has a lot of footage of her doing embarrassing things.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Geoff is saddened that Bridgette will be away long-term, but he gets the satisfaction of getting even with Blaineley.
  • Bland-Name Product: Blaineley calls the Area 51 aliens "facehoggers", referencing to the Facehuggers that appear in the Alien film franchise.
  • Boxing Kangaroo: Leshawna has to face off against one as a task for the Second Chance challenge.
  • Camera Abuse: The cameraman and camera that are with Bridgette in Siberia are attacked by Bruno the bear, until Bridgette calms him down.
  • Chekhov's Gag: All the gross stuff that Blaineley is said to do in private ends up being relevant for when she and Owen relate to each other in the next episode.
  • The Chew Toy: Tyler is this, more so than usual in this episode.
  • Curse Cut Short: After catching an intern in a bag as per the instructions, Beth throws him into Blaineley to finish up her challenge. Blaineley has been cruel towards everyone the entire show and her co-host Geoff is one of her main victims. As she gets up, Geoff smugly says: "Well, ain't karma a real-," but Blaineley cuts him off before he can say "bitch" by denying that Beth's throw has any more significance than bad aim.
  • Death Trap Tango: Noah has to dodge a series of lasers or he will get attacked by a pair of face-hugging aliens. He does so by dancing (and performs so well that Blaineley asks him "Are you available for birthday parties?"), dodges almost all of them except the last one, and gets attacked by the aliens.
  • The Diss Track: "Her Real Name Isn't Blainley" is Geoff's revenge on Blainley for sending his girlfriend to Siberia. He mocks her on national TV by saying how she isn't the person she pretends she is, to the point where even her name is fake.
  • Dude, Not Funny!: In-Universe. Lindsay refuses to laugh at the video-montage of Tyler's Amusing Injuries.
  • Dynamic Entry: Tyler attempts to do this by swinging into the studio, only to end up in a wheelchair when he fails.
  • Embarrassing First Name: Blaineley's first name is Mildred, which she treats in this way.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: Geoff upon realizing that he can really stick it to Blaineley by preventing her from getting paid.
  • Exact Words: The first person to answer the last question gets to enter the game. As Beth struggles to do so, Blaineley angrily shouts the answer and technically wins the challenge. Geoff gleefully goes along with this to get rid of her.
  • Fat and Proud: Blaineley doesn't exactly look disgusted at her secret Balloon Belly based on her grunts and her expression.
  • Fluffy Tamer: By the end of the episode, Bridgette ended up befriending the same bear that tried to attack her, naming him "Bruno".
  • Gasshole: Once she lets out her gut, Blaineley burps and farts at the same time with enough strength to shake both her stomach and the camera.
Geoff: My mom always said if you can fart and burp at the same time, you have no soul.
  • Get A Hold Of Yourself Man: Geoff witnesses Bridgette being terrified of another bear encounter just before she gets covered by layers of snow. As the camera goes static, all he can do is helplessly repeat her name. Blaineley wants to get on with the show, so she slaps him out of it. All it does is add pure hatred for her to his worry for Bridgette.
  • Groin Attack: Noah's Chris head hits him right in the groin after he opens the can.
  • Gross-Up Close-Up: Blaineley's the source of three of these in the episode. One of the times was a slice of pizza she ate that had fallen on the floor, the other two were her grotesque feet.
  • Haiku: Beth is forced to do one for Heather in her first task.
  • Hated by All: Blaineley becomes very unpopular after it's revealed she sent Bridgette off to Siberia in her place.
  • "Hell, Yes!" Moment: Geoff over Blaineley "winning" the chance to compete and thus being out of his hair.
  • Hope Spot: Geoff opens the show happy as can be because Blaineley is supposed to be gone at long last. Instead, she's still in the studio and it's his girlfriend that's in Siberia.
  • Human Mail: Blaineley is sent to the Total Drama plane in a large box, just like how Blaineley sent Bridgette away.
  • Humiliation Conga: Blaineley gets through one, delivered by Geoff.
  • Insult to Rocks: Leshawna calls the "Chris-In-The-Box" an insult to boxes.
  • Involuntary Dance: Noah is forced to do this as his task for the Second Chance challenge.
  • "It" Is Dehumanizing: Geoff is crushed when Bridgette says she's staying to tend to Bruno's injuries.
Geoff: You can't leave me with this thing. [points at Blaineley]
  • It's Personal: Geoff never cared for Blaineley, but then a bear knocks out Bridgette's camera. Fearing the worst, Geoff tells Blaineley that the gloves are off.
  • Kevlard: One of the peanut cans harmlessly bounces off of Sadie's gut. Another one then gets stuck in her fat, shocking both her and Katie.
  • Leitmotif: Duncan's original one from the very first episode plays when Harold goes into the ring against the Boxing Kangaroo to avenge Leshawna. It ends badly for Harold.
  • Oblivious to Their Own Description: Blaineley doesn't want to compete in the show, saying she fears the editors will make her look like "some kind of shrill, rude, catty monster."
  • Race Against the Clock: Blaineley won't get paid if the episode doesn't finish on time. When Geoff recalls this, he does everything possible to drag things out.
  • Resigned to the Call: Noah pointedly refuses a chance to rejoin the game, saying he doesn't want to be trapped on a plane full of crazy people. Blaineley tells him he's contractually obligated to participate in a challenge. He only really bothers trying because of how potentially deadly it would be to just stand there.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Geoff goes on one against Blaineley.
  • The Scapegoat: Blaineley initially tried to blame Bridgette being in Siberia on the producers. They responded by telling Geoff over his earpiece that that's not true.
  • Screw the Money, I Have Rules!: If the episode doesn't finish on time, the hosts don't get paid. When Blaineley points out that includes him, Geoff says losing a paycheck would be Worth It to get back at her for what she did to Bridgette.
  • Series Continuity Error: Bridgette is eating a slice of pepperoni pizza when Blaineley kidnaps her, even though she was confirmed to be a vegetarian in "Brunch of Disgustingness".
  • Side Bet: Trent and Leshawna make a bet for five bucks whether or not Lindsay will remember Tyler's name. She remembers and Trent hands over a fiver to Leshawna.
  • Sympathetic Adulterer: Implied. When Gwen appears in this episode, the audience cheers instead of booing like her last Aftermath appearance. Aside from Blaineley introducing her as "the Boyfriend Kisser" and "the New Heather", nobody seems to be particularly upset or angry that she kissed Duncan, not even Trent.
  • Tempting Fate: When she accidentally wins the challenge and was given a chance to participate in the World Tour competition, Blaineley refuses, saying that no one can make her go. The scene then zooms out to reveal three interns, each armed with a baseball bat, a rope, and a burlap sack, glaring at her.
    Blaineley: Except maybe them.
  • That Russian Squat Dance:
    • Geoff does this during the song.
    • Noah does this during his challenge as an elaborate way to avoid lasers.
  • Vaudeville Hook: As Gwen is called on stage, a bear follows after her, but he is pulled back with a hook.
  • "The Villain Sucks" Song: "Her Real Name Isn't Blaineley".
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: Geoff doesn't wear a shirt when performing the song. In fact, he only does it in his underpants.
  • Worth It: Beth sincerely competes for a chance to rejoin the game and win a million dollars. As noted above, Blaineley answering the question puts a stop to that, but you can see Beth smiling over her being sent packing.
  • Wouldn't Hit a Girl: Upon learning the whole truth about Bridgette being in Siberia, Geoff has to remind himself to not physically attack Blaineley.
  • "You!" Exclamation: Geoff's stunned reaction to Blaineley being in the studio.
  • You Monster!: Blaineley gets Bridgette to take her place on a trip to Siberia with force and trickery. Geoff learns of this and sees Bridgette on camera being terrified of another bear encounter just before she gets covered by layers of snow. Blaineley has zero remorse, leaving Geoff with nothing but to hatefully call her a monster. She dismissively replies that she's been called worse.
