Recap / Total Drama: "Aftermath II: Forgive and For Gwen"

Go To

The second aftermath finds Gwen in hot water and Geoff acting like a huge jerk. At the same time, DJ's interview goes smoothly, and Courtney becomes increasingly vocal.

Tropes:

  • Abhorrent Admirer: Katie and Sadie act as this towards the newly-single Trent, apparently having gone on a date with him since the last Aftermath.
  • Amicable Exes: Granted things are rather awkward between them, but Trent both forgives Gwen and defends her to the audience.
  • Appeal to Force: An "unseen clip" of DJ in the confessional has Chef forcing him to say lines that he really doesn't want to say, mostly by saying very selfish things. DJ's too much of a Nice Guy to want to say them.
  • Berserk Button: Bridgette doesn't like people insulting her weight, as Geoff found out.
  • Blatant Lies: Bridgette tries to dissuade herself from a question that was very obviously targeted towards Geoff, though it's easy to figure out that it's her who wrote it.
  • Brutal Honesty: While talking and panicking in the waiting room, Gwen gets concerned over possibly getting grilled by the interview. DJ, rather bluntly, tells her that she's "probably dead".
  • The Cameo: Chef makes a brief appearance pushing Gwen onto the stage for her interview, and as security trying to get Izzy under control.
  • Cluster Bleep-Bomb: A fan of DJ's tries to cook a meal in his honor, but becomes frustrated when he can't figure out the secret ingredient. He goes on a tirade on TV that mostly gets bleeped out.
  • Designated Villain: Gwen, gets this treatment In-Universe from the audience, being booed while coming onto the stage.
  • Dynamic Entry: Izzy swings onto the stage onto a rope screaming with another one of her aliases, causing trouble for security (Chef).
  • Epunymous Title: The title uses Gwen's name to play on the phrase "Forgive and forget."
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • Bridgette rides Gwen rather hard, but only because she genuinely sympathized with Trent. She's still irritated by Geoff selling out friends just for the sake of drama-fueled ratings. She also warns Gwen about the anvil.
    • Trent ultimately demands people stop laying into Gwen.
  • Force Feeding: Bridgette forces a sandwich down Geoff's throat when he acts like he's too good for it and insults her weight while he's at it.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Ezekiel claps at Geoff's line on prioritising money over integrity, a hint at his future behaviour in the special, and in World Tour.
    • Gwen and Duncan's closeness also foreshadows their eventual relationship in World Tour.
  • Friendship Moment: DJ is the only one in Gwen's corner from the start of all this. He even pushes her out of the way of the anvil.
  • Hi, Mom!: DJ goes for Brutal Honesty with Gwen because he promised not to lie again, especially with his mother in the building. He then shouts this at the camera. Getting onstage next to the peanut gallery, DJ's mother waves back at the screen.
  • Hope Spot: Gwen almost mollifies Courtney and convinces her that Duncan is devoted to her. Then Geoff rolls the rest of the clip, showing an unintended compromising position between Gwen and Duncan.
  • Just Friends: Gwen's justification for her and Duncan hanging out.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Geoff, after trying to bash DJ during his interview, gets rotten food thrown at him by DJ's mother.
  • Loony Fan: A Trent fangirl appears on the show with a doll in his form that she kisses.
  • Mama Bear: When Geoff refuses to show the full clip that DJ insists would exonerate him, DJ's mother resorts to Produce Pelting.
  • Manipulative Editing: Geoff and Bridgette choose to only show DJ's confessional in which he's unapologetic about the many benefits of his illegal alliance with Chef. DJ begs them to show another confessional that would clear his name, but they refuse for entertainment's sake until DJ's mother starts pelting them with produce. The other confessional shows that DJ was instructed on what to say by Chef under threat of violence.
  • Mass "Oh, Crap!": Just about EVERYONE has this reaction when Geoff insults Bridgette's weight...
    DJ: Uh-oh.
  • Mirthless Laughter: Bridgette over the fan letter where "someone" bemoans her boyfriend's increasingly obnoxious and smarmy attitude.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: Gordon the foul mouthed young chef is based on Gordon Ramsay, who is famous for his frequent swearing.
  • Not Helping Your Case: Gwen's reputation has taken a nosedive after Geoff reveals footage that shows obvious Ship Tease between her and Duncan, effectively proving that Trent's desperate lengths to please Gwen, culminating in their break-up, weren't unfounded. Gwen protests her innocence, claiming that she and Duncan "wrestled for two seconds" and then stole everyone's underwear and strung it from the flagpole. Amused, Geoff sarcastically points out how great a friend Gwen is.
  • Out-of-Character Moment:
    • Katie and Sadie get really mean to Gwen in this episode, which was never hinted at prior to this episode.
    • Bridgette gets very violent towards Geoff when he calls her overweight.
  • Piranha Problem: Geoff attempts to get Gwen into a "piranha seat" that acts as a dunking board. While Gwen is spared thanks to Trent, Chef gets dunked after attempting to get Izzy out of the studio.
  • Produce Pelting: Geoff and Bridgette choose to only show DJ's confessional in which he's unapologetic about the many benefits of his illegal alliance with Chef and refuse to show another confessional that would clear his name. Not one to let her son's name be tarnished, DJ's mother throws a full cabbage and a tomato at Geoff to get him to change his mind, which he wisely does.
  • Pun-Based Title: The title is a play on the phrase "forgive and forget".
  • Replacement Goldfish: The tell the truth challenge gets a replacement punishment, from a large wooden hammer, to an anvil.
  • Roses Are Red, Violets Are Blue...: Kelsey, a Loony Fan of Trent, recites a disturbing poem she wrote for him.
    Your hair is black
    My heart is blue
    I'll stuff you with rags
    And sew you up, too!
  • Shout-Out: Bridgette uses the name Gidget123 to ask Gwen a question.
  • So Proud of You: While she doesn't speak in this episode, DJ's mother is clearly very proud of her son's actions that got him eliminated.
  • Spoiler Title: Now that the viewers are aware of what Aftermath episodes are about, the extended title of the episode spoils Gwen being eliminated between the first Aftermath episode and this one.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Geoff, under the influence of his new superstar lifestyle.
  • With Friends Like These...:
    • Geoff quietly asks DJ to tell a lie because him getting hit with an anvil would be good for ratings.
    • As Geoff rides her hard about what happened, Gwen says she thought they were friends.
  • Worm in an Apple: In a flashback segment highlighting the gross food given to the contestants, Lindsay holds up an apple from which no less than ten earthworms protrude.
