Go To

Original airdate: November 17, 1995

Back Out in the Outback: While the duo are hunting bugs in the Australian Outback, Timon tries to catch Bruce, a land crab he's mistaken for a bug.

Gabon with the Wind: Pumbaa thinks that Timon has sold him out to Cheetata and Cheetato to save his own skin.

Back Out in the Outback contains examples of:

  • Awesome Aussie: Bruce the land crab. He shrugs off everything Timon throws at him and sends him packing with minimal effort.
  • Blood Knight: Bruce admits, later in the segment, that he's having too much fun fending off Timon and hopes he hasn't given up.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Not only does Timon insist that he and Pumbaa hunt seperately, he keeps going after the bigger bugs instead of settling for anything smaller. He soon runs into Bruce, a massive land crab who quickly proves to be too much for Timon to beat on his own.
  • Entertainingly Wrong: Timon assumes Bruce is a bug just because he has multiple legs and an exoskeleton. While these are traits shared by bugs and crustaceans, the latter are a completely different class of arthropods.
  • Evil Laugh: Timon gives a particularly deranged one of these midway through the episode.
  • Let's Split Up, Gang!: At the start of the episode, Timon announces to Pumbaa that he wants them to seperate in order to perfect their individual hunting skills instead of working together as they usually do. Ironically, Pumbaa fares better off than Timon.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Since the two are separated, Pumbaa has no idea what Timon's really going through and thinks that one tiny bug keeps whooping him. By the same token, up until the end, Timon had no idea that Pumbaa was getting help from the same land crab he was trying to catch.
  • Non Sequitur, *Thud*: After Timon's final attempt to catch Bruce goes awry and sends him flying into the cliff one more time, he mutters "I am loser, hear me groan!" before collapsing.
  • Screw This, I'm Out of Here!: The reveal of Bruce as Pumbaa's new friend is too much for Timon, who briefly gets Wide Eyes and Shrunken Irises before screaming in horror and fleeing for the hills.

Gabon with the Wind contains examples of:

  • Chained to a Railway: One of Timon's tricks to try and catch Pumbaa is to tie himself to a fake railroad track so that Pumbaa will save him. Pumbaa, however, remembers that there is no railway in the jungle and leaves Timon where he is. And then Timon gets run over by a train appearing out of nowhere.
  • Foe-Tossing Charge: An enraged Pumbaa charges the cheetahs and hits them so hard they fly into a tree.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: At episode's end, Timon strings up Cheetata and Cheetato the same way they did to him. He isn't planning to eat them, of course - he just has an axe to grind.
  • Mythology Gag: When Cheetata calls Pumbaa a "pig", Timon and Pumbaa repeat word-for-word the dialogue between them when Banzai made that exact same mistake in the film.
  • Oh, Crap!: Timon and Pumbaa both have this reaction when the cheetahs finally catch up to them. But then Cheetata makes the mistake of pressing Pumbaa's Berserk Button by calling him a "pig", which then leads to the cheetahs reacting this way as Pumbaa charges.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Timon tricks the cheetahs into setting him free so he can catch Pumbaa, while in reality he wants them both to flee to safety. But instead of immediately explaining this to Pumbaa, who is genuinely angry with him, Timon tries catching him anyway, which leads to a lot of Amusing Injuries on Timon's part.
