Recap / Thunderbolt Fantasy S 1 E 12

Go To

After escaping from the Onyx Demons, Syou Fu Kan happens upon Ken San Un and Tan Hi. He learns that Syu Un Syou and Kei Gai have stolen the crossguard and intend to sell it to Betsu Ten Gai. In anger over Syou Fu Kan's apparent lack of actual swordsmanship skills, Ken mockingly dubs him the "Edgeless Blade", a title that Syou Fu Kan actually likes. Suddenly, Chou Mei and the Onyx Demons show up and attack the three of them. After throwing aside his sword to protect the injured Ken San Un, Syou Fu Kan finally reveals his true abilities by fighting the Onyx Demons and Chou Mei with nothing more than a tree branch, as Ken discovers that Syou's real sword is nothing more than a piece of wood painted silver. After killing Chou Mei and the Onyx Demons, Syou explains his philosophy to fight in a way that makes him feel exhausted after taking someone's life, and then the three of them head to the Sword Forging Shrine. Meanwhile, Syu Un Syou and Kei Gai meet with Betsu Ten Gai at the Sword Forging Shrine. After removing the sword's blade from the pedestal, the body of the demon god You Ja Rei is revealed, as it was never destroyed or banished during the War of the Fading Dusk but simply sealed and made dormant. Kei Gai then kills Syu Un Syou for trying to prevent the awakening of the demon god. After taking his leave from Kei Gai, Betsu Ten Gai is confronted by Lin Setsu A who summons up a sword to do battle.

Tropes:

  • Body Horror: Syou Fu Kan essentially explodes a "ki bomb" inside Chou Mei's chest, causing his rib-cage to explode outwards...through his back.
  • Killed Off for Real: Afterwards, Syu Un Syou was of course promptly betrayed by Kei Gai and killed via Neck Lift
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: We find that this was his ultimate fate after the War of the Fading Dusk. The true purpose of Tan Hi and Tan Kou wasn't to protect the Tengyouken for the sword's sake, but to keep You Ja Rei in his prison.
