Tropes

  • Complaining About Rescues They Don't Like: When Scott starts trying to repair Lemaire's ship (and fails), Lemaire quickly starts bitching about him tearing apart the wood paneling.
  • Don't Think, Feel: Alan's philosophy for space flight is revealed to be this.
  • Noodle Incident: Lemaire had some kind of incident at a farm in Kent that still gives him nightmares about ducks.
  • Shown Their Work: Halley's Comet actually will return in 2061, around the time the show's set.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Lemaire takes a life-threatening risk to get a better view of the comet and ends up trashing his ship, has no idea how to work its emergency functions, and tries to complain to Scott about the below-average cheese he has to snack on when International Rescue comes to save him.
    • Not only that, this episode's evidently at least the second time International Rescue's bailed out Francois Lemaire, since he recognizes Scott from the time they saved him from his birthday party going pear-shaped in the Mariana Trench (which is the deepest point in the ocean, and as such a pretty dumb place to just make a casual visit).
  • Women Are Wiser: Francois' wife Madeleine is much calmer and aware where her husband is flashy but foolish.
