When Thomas' whistle suddenly stops working, he learns that he doesn't need his whistle to still be himself.
Tropes:
- An Aesop: Just because you’re having a bad day, it doesn’t mean that you’re no longer important or needed.
- The Bully: On and off bully Diesel is at it again, making fun of Thomas with the Troublesome Trucks and kicking up dust that breaks his whistle. At least he apologizes in the end.
- Disability Superpower: Thomas gets really down about his broken whistle and starts to believe he couldn’t possibly help anyone in this state. When Percy is in danger, he realizes that he can call the red-billed gulls (whose call his whistle now makes) to his aid to warn his friend of the runaway truck.
- "Everybody Laughs" Ending: When Gordon asks Thomas if he knows the call of another rare bird, Percy mentions that he might and lets out a horrendous screeching whistle. The episode ends on an Iris Out of the three of them laughing together.
- Job Song: Percy sings a catchy little song about how much he loves his job of delivering the town’s mail.
- Unstoppable Mailman: Percy is determined to still deliver the mail even though he’s clearly not feeling well. Thomas then offers to help, but soon realizes his whistle isn’t working and that he won’t be able to alert people to come get their mail. They end up deciding to work together to get the mail to all the citizens of Sodor.
