- Beware the Nice Ones: When Bucky casually claims he was never going to use Zeta to kill Dr. Tannor, but merely to scare him, Zeta loses his cool. Angered by Bucky's callous disregard for life, he activates his saw blades to intimidate Bucky, who cowers and promises he'll never mess with Zeta again.
- Bratty Half-Pint: Bucky establishes himself as this, being precocious and arrogant as they come.
- Foreshadowing: Dr. Tannor claims that Bucky was disqualified from the science fair because of his awful attitude. Bucky doesn't believe that's the reason. Sure enough, he's right: Tannor disqualified him with the ulterior motive of taking credit for Bucky's invention.
- Jerk with a Heart of Jerk: When compared to the bratty Bucky, Dr. Tannor comes off as being strict but fair, and voices that he disqualified the kid for his overall terrible behavior. But later, it turns out the "good" doctor's reasons are not well-meaning: he disqualified Bucky so he could take sole credit for his invention.
