Recap / The Wonder Years S 06 E 04 Sex And Economics

Go To

Constantly low on money, Kevin decides to accept a job to paint the house of his sexy social studies teacher, Miss Farmer. Of course, Kevin thinks he's just supposed to paint part of the house, as opposed to the whole house, and also has to pay for his supplies. Unable to get his friends to help him, he tries to trick some other students into "making a few bucks", but they end up asking for raises, goofing off, ogling Miss Farmer when she sunbathes, wasting paint, and quitting, leaving Kevin to do it all alone. Eventually, Kevin learns that she's actually moving, and the man who bought the house won't pay him for more supplies, and after all of Kevin's hard work, the new owner ends up putting aluminum siding over the house six months later.

Provides examples of

  • All for Nothing: Kevin takes the job because he is in need of money, but ends up spending a lot more than what he got paid, and says that the new owner of the house would soon put aluminum siding over his work.
  • Broke Episode: Kevin is often broke, which is why he accepts painting his teacher's house.
  • Downer Ending: Kevin ends up spending more money than he got paid, and not long after he finished the house, the new owner put aluminum siding over it.
  • Exact Words: Kevin gets a crew after asking them if they'd "like to make a few bucks", clearly intending on not paying them too much. Unfortunately, while they accept the job, it's not long before they catch on and ask how "few" he meant.
  • Hot Teacher: Miss Farmer. She wears skirts while teaching, low cut clothing at home, and sunbathes in one scene. While Kevin is a little attracted to her, his crew procrastinates to watch her.
  • Smarter Than You Look: Kevin gets a crew after asking if they'd like to make a few dollars, but then after they're hired, they ask about how "few" and end up demanding a raise.
