Kevin hears a rumor that Winnie and Kirk McCray are going to break up, and Kevin thinks he has a chance with her. However, Kirk apologizes, and they stay together. Later, Kevin and Paul go to the skating rink, where Paul skates with Carla Healy. Winnie comes to Kevin with a question, which Kevin thinks is her asking him to skate with her, but it turns out that Winnie's friend Becky Slater wants to skate with Kevin. In an attempt to make Winnie jealous, Kevin not only skates with her, but also asks to go steady.
Kevin doesn't really enjoy his time with Becky, and soon decides to tell her the truth, until Winnie shows up, looking for Kirk. Sensing that Winnie might be jealous seeing Kevin and Becky together, Kevin decides to stay with Becky. Later, Kevin sees Winnie and Kirk making up, and Kevin decides to give up on Winnie. It is at this moment that Paul and Carla apologize to Kevin, who was unaware that Becky was going to break up with him since it's obvious he still likes Winnie. Kevin approaches Becky, telling her that he doesn't like Winnie. When she asks if he likes her, Kevin remarks that he doesn't really know her. Becky ends up missing her bus, and Kevin decides to walk home with her.
