Season 10, Episode 8

Alexandria deals with the fallout of Siddiq’s death while Daryl and Aaron lead a search for Alpha’s horde.

  • And Then John Was a Zombie: Siddiq reanimates and is put down by Rosita when he menaces Coco.
  • Asshole Victim: Nobody is going to miss a smug, arrogant, murderous Whisperer like Dante. Tellingly, on the following episode of Talking Dead a whopping 1% of voters felt Dante didn’t deserve his fate (to the amusement of the guests and Chris Hardwick).
  • The Atoner: Gabriel is strongly implied to view his murder of Dante this way, to make up for the fact that Dante fooled him during his interview.
  • Call-Back: Ezekiel struggles and ultimately cannot bring himself to tell Carol of his thyroid cancer that he revealed to Siddiq.
  • Cerebus Retcon: It’s revealed that Dante asphyxiated Cheryl with a pillow instead of her succumbing to her illness.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Gabriel presides over Siddiq’s funeral. He previously presided over Tyreese’s funeral in Season 5’s “What Happened And What’s Going On”.
    • Season 5’s “Remember” had Deanna recording her interviews with Rick’s group when they entered Alexandria. This episode reveals that Gabriel has been continuing the process.
      • During Dante's interview, Gabriel asks how many people he's killed. This is one of the three questions the heroes have used to vet new survivors ever since season four.
    • Aaron is seen telling stories to Gracie based on his collection of state license plates. His hobby was last mentioned the Season 5 finale “Conquer”.
    • Aaron reveals to Gamma/Mary that her nephew has been named Adam. In “The Calm Before”, Tammy Rose suggested Adam as a name for Frances' baby, but Earl hated it. It’s suggested that this was the only serious suggestion Tammy had for the baby, which is why Earl likely kept it for his new son in the wake of his wife’s death.
    • Virgil talking about mercy brings Michonne to tears as she remembers Siddiq’s mantra from Season 8 - “May my mercy prevail over my wrath”. The phrase became the Arc Words of that season and Rick adopted it in the wake of Carl’s death.
  • Death by Adaptation: While it’s not known if Dante survived the entire comic book’s run since he was not seen in the distant epilogue, he still didn’t perish during the Whisperer War arc of the comics like his TV counterpart.
  • Death Seeker: Daryl calls Carol out for not caring what happens to her as long as Alpha dies.
  • Elite Mook: The walkers outside Alexandria have hard hats practically melted onto their heads, making them difficult to kill on their own.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Mary is willing to reveal her true name and face to Aaron and betray Alpha’s horde to the heroes if it means a chance to see her nephew.
  • It's All About Me: Downplayed, but Gabriel doesn’t give Rosita too much comfort with her trauma, as he’s too upset and shaken by Dante’s infiltration. He rather coldly assures her she’ll be fine while continuing to rant about his own feelings.
  • It's Personal: Gabriel feels particularly stung by Dante’s deception since as leader of Alexandria, he personally vetted Dante when he arrived in town. He later personally murders Dante himself.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: Carol falls for Alpha’s ruse and leads the group into the cave where she’s keeping her horde.
  • Mama Bear: Rosita is able to take down Dante and put down the undead Siddiq to save Coco.
  • More Dakka: Virgil lives at a naval base where there may be weapons sufficient to annihilate Alpha’s horde.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: It’s very telling what kind of mindset that the peaceful, fair-minded Gabriel is in after he forgoes the democratic ways of Alexandria to brutally murder Dante for his crimes.
  • Papa Wolf: Gabriel. Considering that Dante not only murdered Siddiq, who he loved like a brother, but also tried to murder his girlfriend Rosita and his child Coco it's safe to say that he was this before murdering Dante.
  • Put on a Bus: Michonne departs on a boat for Virgil’s camp for an indefinite period of time to find weapons.
  • These Hands Have Killed: Gabriel has this reaction after he kills Dante.
  • Tranquil Fury: Before his reaction above, Gabriel is clearly seething with rage when talking to Dante in his cell clearly stung by Siddiq's death before avenging his death by killing him afterward.
  • Villain Has a Point: Dante smugly points out to Gabriel that he’s entitled to a fair trial since Alexandria and the communities champion the old, civilized ways. Unfortunately for Dante, Gabriel acknowledges this to be true but he doesn’t give a damn.
  • Wake-Up Call Boss: Dante’s true nature dramatically shakes the communities since he was able to so easily integrate himself into Alexandria, and Michonne tells Oceanside they must change their vetting process for new arrivals.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: What happened to the man that was knocked out by Dante and had his clothes stolen?
