Season 7, Episode 15

Sasha is imprisoned at the Sanctuary while the Alexandrians mount an assault on Oceanside.

  • Asshole Victim: David gets killed by Negan when he got caught attempting to rape Sasha
  • Authority in Name Only: Natania is overruled by her constituents, who agree to hand over their weapons to Alexandria so they can fight the Saviors, and ends the episode in her house sulking and recovering from Cyndie's punch.
  • Berserk Button: Just seeing Dwight at the end of the episode drives Daryl into a rage and nearly everyone else in the room has to hold him back from beating Dwight to a pulp.
  • The Bus Came Back: The Oceanside community makes a return after last having been seen in "Swear."
  • Call-Back:
    • Tara encountered Oceanside and barely survived her encounter with them in "Swear". Tara also flips the bird at Rachel as she did before.
    • Eugene concocted his poison pills and joined the Saviors in "Hostiles and Calamities".
    • Alexandria comes knocking at Oceanside needing their guns for themselves and the Scavengers (who demanded more guns in "Say Yes"), and using the dynamite they looted from the Saviors' highway blockade in "Rock in the Road".
    • Dwight becomes the first person ever locked up in the prison cell Morgan started building in "Not Tomorrow Yet" and finished in "Twice as Far."
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Eugene recalls the night of "Last Day On Earth"/"The Day Will Come When You Won't Be", in which he volunteered to drive the RV as a distraction and ended up in the lineup anyway, as the time he's most been afraid for his life.
    • Gregory heavily considers killing Maggie while her back is turned, jealous of her rise as a leader in Hilltop, but can't go through with it and grows flustered and irritated. It's a similar set-up to Shane's first attempt to kill Rick way back in "Wildfire", the fifth episode of the series.
    • Tara says that her group can take Oceanside without firing a shot - almost word for word for The Governor's promise to his militia back in Season 4's "Too Far Gone".
    • Rick decides to hear out Dwight's offer for an alliance, but first orders him to get on his knees - retribution for when he and his group were humiliated and cowed to get on their knees by Negan.
  • Driven to Suicide: Sasha puts on an act begging Eugene to slip her a weapon to kill Negan with, though she claims it's for killing herself so that she cannot be used to hurt their friends. Eugene responds with his suicide pills.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Negan may be a murderous psychopath, but he doesn't take kindly to one of his men threatening to rape Sasha.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: Oceanside and Alexandria form an understanding as they take out a herd of walkers together.
  • Gone Horribly Right: Sasha begs Eugene for a weapon to ostensibly kill herself with, but her smile once he leaves indicates she just wants something to attack Negan with. Eugene obliges her request and gives her the suicide pills so she can have a quick, painless death, and Sasha is aghast that she wasn't given a weapon.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Dwight has come to Alexandria to join their efforts to kill Negan, and the indication is that he's sincere if the vengeful Rosita finds him trustworthy enough to bring him back home.
  • Kneel Before Zod: Rick agrees to let Dwight join their cause, but orders him to get on his knees before they begin talking, to get back at him for the lineup.
  • Mythology Gag: David's attempted rape of Sasha, and his murder by Negan for it, is taken from issue #117 of the comics, which was only a few issues after this episode's place in the timeline (as the show is only just at the end of "March To War" while issue #117 was in the middle of "All Out War").
  • Pet the Dog: After being tempted to kill Maggie, Gregory tries to at least do his part and kill a walker. He buggers it up and then has to be rescued by the pregnant woman he's ostensibly trying to protect, but it's more than we've seen him do for anyone else.
  • Rejected Apology: Negan does not accept David's apology for his attempted rape and stabs him in the neck.
  • The Reveal: Dwight was the crossbow-wielding figure Rosita encountered at the end of the previous episode, and he wants to help Rick take Negan down.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Tobin, Scott, Francine, and Eric are all among the strike team to subdue Oceanside, none of them having been seen in combat against hostile humans before.
  • We Can Rule Together: Negan offers Sasha a chance at joining the Saviors, and outright says that with her courage and status as a bonafide badass, she could one day join his inner circle and help him lead the empire.
