Tropes in this episode:

  • All Myths Are True:
    • Again, Atlantis, but with the reveal that it was an Earth city and not originally Gaean.
      • It's not explicitly stated, but with the above confirmation, there's a subtle implication that the Draconian wings may have been the basis for the Biblical Angels.
  • Atlantis: Our heroes finally reach the lost city's ruins.
  • Dead All Along:
    • Varie Fanel's spirit appears to Hitomi, confirming that Van's mother did die at some point after she wandered into the forests of Fanelia.
    • Leon Schezar is also definitively confirmed to have been killed a decade ago by Zaibach agents.
  • Foreshadowing: The ancient Atlantean Fate Alteration Engine bears a resemblance to the device we've seen in Dornkirk's 'Throne Room'.
  • Meaningless Villain Victory: Dornkirk used Leon Schezar to gather valuable insight and information about Atlantis and the Fate Alteration technology. He then killed him to obtain it ...and it was all for nothing, because Leon wisely discarded the specific notes from his Journal before leaving the Mystic Valley.
  • My Greatest Second Chance: Gaea was created by the surviving Atlanteans to be one for them and to avoid screwing up another planet.
  • Once More, with Clarity: Once Hitomi learns the truth about her Pendant, her visions from earlier episodes are revisited with that new context.
  • The Reveal:
    • Gaea is not a natural world, but was created by the ancient Atlanteans.
    • Hitomi's pendant — the one Leon Schezar gave to her grandmother — isn't a piece of jewelry. It's actually a piece of Atlantean technology operating on the basic Fate Alteration principle. In other words, Hitomi hasn't actually been predicting potential futures all this time on Gaea: She's unknowingly been creating them. More, her underlying anxiety issues are why these potential futures keep turning out to be worst case scenarios.
  • Wham Episode: The secret origins of Atlantis, the Draconians, and Gaea itself are revealed (as is the truth of Hitomi's divination). Varie Fanel and Leon Schezar are also both confirmed to have died.
  • Wham Line: "We are the descendants of Atlantis. The people known as the Draconians. We were born in the capital of Atlantis, which lay on the Mystic Moon."
