There is a boy named Fearnot, a dim-witted but kind hearted young man who indeed feels no fear. His father sends him off to learn something, and Fearnot decides he wants to learn how to fear. Along the way, Fearnot meets a shady man named Mr. Mc Kay who intends to help Fearnot find out what fear is to get his money.
This episode provides examples of:
- Becoming the Mask: Mr. Mc Kay puts up a friendly façade to try and con Fearnot out of his money, but as the story goes on he becomes a sincere friend.
- Cowardly Lion: Despite his considerable fear, Mr. Mc Kay goes into the haunted castle when he is afraid Fearnot has been killed by the ghost.
- Fearless Fool: Deconstructed. Fearnot may be fearless and rather oblivious, but it is his fearlessness that allows him to keep his cool in situations where fear would have doomed him. He is also clever enough when he needs to be.
- Also subverted. He eventually does feel fear: the fear of his sweetheart being dead.
- Our Ghosts Are Different: The last monster Fearnot faces is a strange ghost man who can take others body parts and shapeshift. He defeats the ghost by beating him in a game and then strangling him to death, resulting in the ghost turning to a skeleton and fading away.
