After a storm has hit the tree in Smurf Village, Scaredy Smurf believes that every Smurf is cursed with misfortune. The Smurfs search for another golden tree to put in the village square. Later, Papa Smurf makes up a ritual to cleanse the village of misfortune. The next day, Gargamel sees something shiny behind the bushes. He makes it to the Smurf Village and attempts to capture the Smurfs. He becomes distracted by the golden tree and prepares to take it for himself. Just then, lighting strikes the tree again and Gargamel with it. He gains amnesia and the Smurfs lead him back to his home. The Smurfs resume the dance back at the village. Gargamel regains his memory and he curses the Smurfs for tricking him yet again.


This comic book provides examples of:

  • Banishing Ritual: Papa Smurf makes one up to rid the village of their so-called "misfortune".
  • Eek, a Mouse!!: Boniface is frightened away by the Smurfs, who kindly seek to him for help. It's usually tiny creatures who are frightened by giants and not the other way around.
  • Lucky Rabbit's Foot: A Smurf at one point tries to capture one with a radish as bait. It doesn't end well when the rabbit jumps over a bush and the Smurf gets stuck inside, with no one to help him out.
  • Superstition Episode: The main plot of this story. Scaredy Smurf believes that every Smurf is cursed with misfortune and points out the worst parts of it. Near the end, Papa Smurf cleansed the misfortune with a ritual.
