Go To

Return to Recap: The Smurfs.

The Smurfs become increasingly dependent on Handy Smurf's inventions, to the point of him building robot butlers to make everything for them.

This story contains examples of

  • A.I. Is a Crapshoot: The garbage-disposing robot becomes sentient and reprograms every other one to obey him.
  • Big "NEVER!": The waste disposal robot, who became the tyrant of the Smurf Village, shouts this when he tries to escape from the front door of his castle, but finds himself surrounded by the Smurfs that were once his captives, demanding for his surrender. He tries to use a secret escape hatch, only to be turned into furniture when Handy Smurf cuts off his escape with Carpenter Smurf's furniture-making machine.
  • Bowel-Breaking Bricks: It's simply the main function of the waste disposal robot: he eats garbage and he turns them into bricks which he ejects from his rear hatch. Surprisingly, he doesn't poop bricks when he sees that the queen companion Handy Smurf made for him when he became King Trash fell apart and a swarm of termites came out of her.
  • Call-Back: To "The Clockwork Smurf" when Greedy imagines how he could get breakfast delivered to his house without any Smurf needing to do the work.
  • The Cameo: Snappy and Sassette from "The Smurflings" appear in at least one panel in the story.
  • Fishing for Sole: A Smurf who is using one of Handy's robot servants to go fishing ends up catching an old sock and other bits of junk from the river.
  • Getting the Boot: Brainy, by one of the robots when he mocks Handy's ability to get the thing going.
  • Lingerie Scene: Smurfette was seen in lingerie when she was abducted along with her fellow Smurfs in their nightclothes by the robot servants reprogrammed by the now-sentient waste disposal robot. Cue drooling male Smurfs.
  • The Peeping Tom: Greedy Smurf plays this role when Smurfette takes a shower out in the forest and Greedy Smurf tries to get a peek, but is stopped by one of the robot servants.
  • Shower Scene: The story has Smurfette in a Shower Scene, though mostly blocked by the robot servants holding up a sheet for modesty. This doesn't stop Greedy Smurf from playing The Peeping Tom, hoping to see Smurfette naked, though the robot servants foil that attempt.
  • Symbol Swearing: Smurfette when she finds out Greedy has eaten most of their dinner for their date and leaves her only an apple.
  • Termite Trouble: The termites that saved the Smurf Village from King Trash and the mechanical robot servants turned against the Smurfs become the new problem in the village by the book's end.
  • Trojan Horse: Of a sort, when Handy Smurf builds a female robot companion for King Trash, but fills it with termites which end up eating their way out of her and proceed to destroy the other robot servants under King Trash's control.
  • Turned Against Their Masters: The robot servants.
