Return to Recap: The Smurfs (1981)
Hefty wants to become a knight just like in the story, but has to get some training from a real knight. When Sir Lancealout first came to the village, the Smurfs were there to give him nourishment and drinks to build up his strength. Eventually, it all turns out to be a fake, as Lancealout is revealed to be a coward. Hefty then saves the Village from the fire breathing dragon.
This episode contains examples of:
- Darker and Edgier: Has shades of this, with a fire breathing dragon as the only conflict of the story. Subverted, due to the occassional comedic antics of both Clumsy and Brainy.
- Early-Installment Weirdness: As with any episode of the first season, it is bound to reuse the same jokes from time to time. One such bit is Brainy destroying Jokey's present with cake inside, reused from the adaptation of "The Smurfette".
- Getting the Boot: Brainy Smurf is tossed aside by Jokey, after destroying the cake he made for Sir Lancealout.
- Knighting: Papa Smurf knights Hefty at the end of the episode, after saving their village from the fire breathing dragon.
- Knight in Shining Armor: Sir Lancealout is this to the Smurfs. At least for the beginning of this episode.
- Also, Hefty can be this as the real "Smurf" in shining armor.
- Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Lancealout's reaction to the dragon. He runs off, thus showing Hefty that the knight he depended on is really a coward.
