Recap / The Simpsons S30 E20 "I'm Just a Girl Who Can't Say D'oh"

Go To

Marge becomes director of Springfield's local theater, armed with Lisa's script resembling Hamilton; Homer joins a baby class with Maggie, and he takes a liking to supervisor Chloe.

  • Big Storm Episode: A rainstorm floods the town in the middle of the outdoor production. Lisa rewrites the script to incorporate this.
  • Call-Back: The chalkboard gag is "I will not write 'audit please' on Homer's tax return." Homer did have his tax return audited once.
  • The Cameo: Parodied. John Lithgow is in the play as the bear Jedediah Springfield fights. When asked why he's taking such a small part that doesn't even show his face or have any lines, he simply answers "I like to work."
  • Parent Service: Homer takes Maggie to a toddler-age class and enjoys himself more than he thought because the supervisor Chloe is really cute. It turns out that's the reason most of the other dads are attending too.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: Despite Marge's show becoming pretty popular, it loses all its nominations, including at least one to the production of "The Tempest" that took Sideshow Mel, but, after getting mocked over this, Marge ends up getting a special award for Best Newcomer.
  • Throw It In!: In-universe. Lisa writes the flood into the outdoor production.
  • Troubled Production: In-Universe, Marge has to contend with the lead actor dropping out last minute, a rainstorm threatening their outdoor play and the previous director trying to weasel their way back in.
