Homer's new bowling partner (voiced by Steve Carrell) is an accountant for the Mafia who's been promoted to mob boss while Fat Tony goes to court — for jury duty. Meanwhile, Lisa adds bugs to her vegetarian diet after suffering a drop in iron, but stops when the bugs guilt her in her dreams.

- Call-Back: When Lunch Lady Doris suggests Lisa add insects to her diet Lisa claims it doesn't feel right because she promised Paul McCartney she would stay a vegetarian. This is also a nod to the fact in real life Paul agreed to voice himself on that episode on the stipulation that Lisa would remain a vegetarian going forward.
- Jerkass Ball: When she hears that Lisa isn't getting enough iron, Marge prays for it to be because of the vegetarianism so that she can force her daughter to start eating meat again.
- Jury Duty: The reason Fat Tony isn't available to run his crime syndicate.
- Karma Houdini: Snake is acquitted and plans to rob some place to pay his lawyer's fees. Though he does get shot by a gun Homer and Gimmick were fighting over.
- Slippery Slope Fallacy: Lisa starts eating bugs to supplement her iron deficiency, but when she starts making excuses to eat other types of meat like shrimp (which are kind of like bugs) she starts to feel guilty, realizing she's falling off the vegetarian bandwagon.

- Where the Hell Is Springfield?: At this episode's chalkboard gag, Bart says he wants to secede but doesn't know which state he's in.
