Recap / The Secret Show S 2 E 1 Lucky Leo

Go To

Victor is given a synthetic "lucky gene" for just 24 hours to help him catch Lucky Leo, the luckiest man in the world.

Changed Daily's Name: Pooky Wooky.

Guest starring Stephen Fry as Lucky Leo.

Secret Tropes uncovered:

  • Affably Evil: The titular villain was born with a sort of luck gene that gives him incredible amounts of luck, which he uses to win every election and pageant in the world. Despite this, he is genuinely very whimsical and charismatic to the point where even Anita is falling for his charms!
  • Antagonist Title: The episode is named after the villain of the week, a man who uses his extraordinary luck for his own selfish gains.
  • Born Lucky: Lucky Leo is called such because he's, well, lucky. He uses his extraordinary luck for his own gains, especially when it comes to committing crimes.
  • Dramatic Irony: The episode ends with Pooky Wooky commenting that there is no need for everyone on Earth to be incredibly lucky. Meanwhile, an asteroid storm narrowly misses Earth, which is commented on as a freak breeze.
  • Evil Is Petty: Lucky Leo wants to rule the world by getting into positions of power by sheer luck. He's eventually defeated due not to his luck running out, but everyone in the world getting the luck gene, relegating him to being just as lucky as everyone else. This prompts him to give up and whine about it briefly.
  • Once an Episode:
    • Sweet Little Granny's time slot is cleared by agents swarming the set collecting bunnies, while Granny is hoisted out via helicopter.
    • Victor and Anita's jump in the title sequence lands them on their sky-bikes.
    • Changed Daily's name is now "Pooky Wooky", and he's clearly not happy with the new name.
  • Pilot: This episode is beat-for-beat identical to the 2004 pitch pilot. It has the same voice actors, same jokes, and the great majority of the visuals are the same. The only real differences are minor tweaks to the script and most of the audio being re-recorded.
  • Plague of Good Fortune: Professor Professor invents a spray that makes the user incredibly lucky and evasive from all misfortune. The spray ends up affecting the whole world that (luckily) saves it from being destroyed from multiple meteors.
  • Overly Long Gag: Victor and Lucky Leo repeatedly one-upping one another and saying variations of "Now THAT was lucky!", to the point where Anita just ignores the battle for what appears to be a good while and sunbathes instead. She eventually does stop them after getting annoyed at their bickering.
  • Running Gag: "Now THAT was lucky!" and variants thereof being said by Lucky Leo and Victor when fighting.
  • Status Quo Is God: The episode ends with everyone in the world getting the luck gene, no longer making Lucky Leo the luckiest man in the world.
