The Mystery Machine gets a flat tire, leaving the gang stranded in the city of Rampoo in China. Fortunately, this happens right outside Rampoo Palace, where the gang meets Kim Chow Ling, the palace's new owner. Kim is about to receive a large inheritance, but is threatened when the Moon Monster, which is supposed to wreak havoc on the palace as long as the family fortune is in his possession.
This episode includes examples of the following:
- Evil Uncle: Chin Wong Sing, who's using his disguise to trick his nephew Kim into giving up his inheritance so Chin can steal it.
- Haunted Castle: A Haunted Chinese Palace, in this case, haunted by an oni from the moon.
- Oni: The Moon Monster is a blue horned demon, based on an oni.
- Taken for Granite: The Moon Monster is said to turn people to stone if its shadow falls on them, and does leave at least one statue in its wake... which turns out to be a decoy, as it's of the man wearing the Moon Monster costume.
