On their way back from a vacation at Niagara Falls, the gang takes a wrong turn and ends up at a sanitarium, where they learn one of the former doctors is supposedly haunting the place.
This episode includes examples of the following:
- Border Patrol: The episode has a cop patrolling the Canadian-American border and stop the gang at the beginning of the episode while on the lookout for some kind of fugitive robber and also informing them of the recent monster sighting. He turns out to be an imposter and the bad guy.
- Coffin Contraband: Played with — Doctor Coffin is smuggling gold disguised as fake cadavers with wigs and sheets with gold to simulate the body shape.
- Fluffy the Terrible: Two of the guard dogs are named Cuddles and Schoonkums.
- Heavy Sleeper: A mysteriously absent suspect, Dr. Tewksberry, turns out to have been trying to sleep through it all.
- The Igor: Dr. Tewksberry might have been one, being a bald, hunchbacked man who was the assistant of a doctor with some strange experiments, although Tewksberry has outlived his employer and comes across as a gracious host and harmless presence.
- Names to Run Away from Really Fast: The ghost of the episode has the spooky name "Dr. Coffin."
- Worm in an Apple: At the end the episode, Scooby bites into an apple and encounters an angry worm. The worm then eats the whole apple.
