The gang is visiting Scooby's cousin Scooby-Dum and his owners, Ma and Pa Skittle, at the Hokeyfenokee Swamp. While there, they encounter the Gator Ghoul, the spirit of a humanoid alligator that's apparently out to ruin the Skittles' business.
This episode includes examples of the following:
- Bland-Name Product: The episode features a popular soft drink entitled "Kookie" Cola. Oddly averted later in the same episode when Shaggy, Scooby, and Scooby-Dum, while making a recipe, directly reference Tabasco Hot Sauce by name.
- Never Smile at a Crocodile: Alligator, in this case — the Gator Ghoul, serving as the villain of the episode, is a humanoid alligator.
- Oh, Crap!!: Scooby does this after realizing (from Daphne) he accidentally ate Shaggy's shoes that were trapped inside the fritter batter.
- Prop Recycling: In-Universe, the Gator Ghoul suit was actually used for a movie filmed in the area, then stolen and repurposed by the episode's villain.
- Red Eyes, Take Warning: Subverted with the Gator Ghoul's yellow eyes that are so powerful they change the tint of the screen when it's shown looking at something.
- Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Prior to the events of the episode, all of the workers at the showboat restaurant quit out of fear of the gator except for the bookkeeper and a dishwasher. The bookkeeper is the culprit.
