- Brick Joke: A joke early on states that Metropolis looks like Edtropolis from Ed, Edd, N Eddy (only realized fully). It even has a clip to acknowledge that. When the Heart machine is destroyed by the workers, there's a clip of Eddy and Edd looking on, frustrated and forlorn.
- Computer Voice: Sir gives Machine Maria this. It's kind of unsettling.
- Gory Discretion Shot / Sound-Only Death: Captain Planet's death by missile.

- Hero Killer: Sir thinks that humanity became this after they finished off Captain Planet.
- Large Ham: Oh, lordy, did Sir turn Machine Maria into this.
- The Power of Love: Invoked once again.
- Red Eyes, Take Warning: The machine man is given this on the poster. Namely, a single red eye.
- Suddenly Voiced: Rotwang and Machine Maria. Only Rotwang is given stock phrases, though.
- What Could Possibly Go Wrong?: Invoked. Again.
