Recap / The Really Loud House S 1 E 2 The Chore Thing

Go To

It's Chore Day at the Loud House, and Clyde's dads are also celebrating their honeymoon by using VR to visit Hawaii. Lincoln tries to get out of doing his chores, but it puts him and Clyde on a crash course with the Custard Gang. Meanwhile, Lynn Sr. loses his kids over the course of the afternoon.

Tropes:

  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: Aside from Lincoln doing this as per usual, Lynn Jr. gets in on the act as part of her sportscasting habit.
  • Creepy Crossdresser: Milkshake Marty is disguised as Auntie Pam while his men have the real Auntie Pam captive.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: The Custard Gang had slaughtered the previous kingpin Pablo Ice Cream Bar and his gang by turning them into milkshakes and drinking them.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Lynn Sr. tells Luna and Leni to not get distracted during chores... only to get distracted by Luna's window-washing making a catchy beat and proceeding to have a jam session for seven minutes.
  • If I Do Not Return: Parodied. Before confronting the Custard Gang, Chief Wellington asked the kids to tell Dolores that he loves her.
    Lincoln: Is Dolores your wife?
    Wellington: My cat.
  • Irony: Lincoln tries to get out of doing chores in the house only to end up scrubbing the floors of the police station.
  • Kids Shouldn't Watch Horror Films: Lucy and Lola skip out of doing chores in favor of watching a scary movie in the basement. This ultimately leads to the both of them accidentally locking themselves in the basement and believing they're trapped with an ancient Mesopotamian monster.
  • Never Trust a Trailer: The first trailer for the series frames Lincoln using the police loudspeaker as him goofing off in Chief Wellington's cruiser, with Chief Wellington seemingly annoyed by his antics. In the actual episode, Lincoln using the loudspeaker is him trying to expose Milkshake Marty with Chief Wellington out of the cruiser, and Chief Wellington's annoyance is instead from an earlier scene where he's unnerved by Lincoln and Clyde trying to sell themselves as innocent kids.
  • Noodle Incident: Lynn tries to reassure his wife he can handle the management of chores, and adds "Trust me". Rita answers back that the last time he said that, she had to poop in the forest.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Milshake Marty's disguise as Auntie Pam consisted of a wig and her clothes only, not even bothering to change his face or even shave. Yet Chief Wellington falls for it.
  • Spotting the Thread: Lincoln makes Milkshake Marty reveal the ruse by tricking him into thinking Auntie Pam sells cake. She doesn't.
  • That Was Not a Dream: Lynn, Sr. calls in the kids for chore duty, and adds "because we're a—" in order to get them to say "team". He starts giving clues, like "rhymes with 'dream'", and this follows:
Leni: I had a "dream" that Dad was marching around, waving an old, nasty toilet brush at us.
Lynn Jr.: That's not a dream, Leni. You're awake.
[Leni takes off her sunglasses, for confirmation.]
