Recap / The Real Ghostbusters Slimer 30 The Not So Great Outdoors

Go To

Slimer and Chilly are about to go camping in the woods, where there are two anthropomorphic rabbits who play a mean prank on a bird. While Slimer unpacks the tent, the rabbits watch and are impressed by all the food that he and Chilly have packed.

While Slimer gets some candy bars, someone taps him on the shoulder. This scares him, but it's just Chilly. She tells him to set up the tent while she chops firewood. While Slimer has trouble pinning down the tent pegs, the rabbits try to steal the food, but the hammer lands on the foot of the fat one, so the tall one takes him far away so he can scream.

Slimer finally manages to set up the tent, when Chilly returns and invites him to fish. He says no because he wants lunch instead, so she leaves to fish on her own. He makes an instant meal and begins eating, then the rabbits steal the box. They scarf down the rest of the instant meals, but find them too spicy, so they drink water, which makes them expand in the rabbits' bellies, blowing them up (since they're made by adding water).

Slimer takes a nap in his tent, so the rabbits (who survived being blown up) make a trail of honey and cover him with it, leading to ants carrying him away as he sleeps. The ants take Slimer home, but he wakes up and flies out. Meanwhile, the rabbits ransack the tent.

Slimer comes back to find the rabbits still there, so he inflates a lifeboat in the tent, trapping them inside. Then, he pulls the air valve, sending the rabbits launching out on the boat. The boat lands in the beehive, angering the bees, who chase them. Meanwhile, Slimer and Chilly lie in hammocks.

  • All There in the Manual: According to a booklet for the series, the tall rabbit is named Robby, while the fat one is named Rufus.
  • Camping Episode: The short follows Slimer and Chilly on a camping trip.
  • Cartoon Throbbing:
    • Slimer's thumb turns red and throbs when he hammers it.
    • Rufus's toe turns red and throbs when the hammer lands on it.
  • Civilised Animal: The ants are anthropomorphic, but they also behave like real ants, being attracted to sugar.
  • Discretion Shot: When the rabbits hit each other with mallets, it cuts to a sign reading, "We hate to show you all this violence".
  • Fat Bastard: The fat rabbit is just as mischievous and thieving as the tall one.
  • Fingore: Slimer accidentally hammers his thumb.
  • Fire-Breathing Diner: The spicy instant meals make Rufus breathe fire.
  • Food Coma: Slimer takes a nap after his lunch.

  • Funny Animal: In the woods, there are two anthropomorphic rabbits.
  • Hammerspace: An example involving literal hammers includes when the rabbits whip hammers out of nowhere to pummel each other.
  • Hand Gagging: When the hammer lands on Rufus's foot, he tries to scream, but Robby puts his hand over his mouth and takes him to scream someplace else.
  • Harmless Exploding: The rabbits survive blowing up after the instant meals expand in their stomachs.
  • The Hyena: The rabbits laugh a lot, usually after causing mischief.
  • Oh, Crap!: The rabbits say, "Ah — bees!" when they realise they've provoked the bees.
  • Out-of-Character Moment: Slimer goes into a Food Coma after lunch, despite food not normally making him sleepy.
  • "Pop!" Goes the Human: When the instant meals expand in the rabbits' stomachs, they first swell up really fat, then explode and fall to pieces.
  • Pun: Chilly can't tell what sort of animals the rabbits are, since they're running too fast, so Slimer says, "They're party animals", based on them calling themselves party animals earlier.
  • Pun-Based Title: The title is a pun on the phrase "the great outdoors".
  • Scary Stinging Swarm: The rabbits end up being chased by a swarm of bees.
  • Silent Whisper: We don't hear what the tall rabbit (Robby according to a manual on the series) whispered to the other one (Rufus according to the same manual).

  • Wormsign: When the rabbits go underground, they leave a trail of turned-up soil.
