Recap / The Real Ghostbusters S 5 E 7 Til Death Do Us Part

Go To

As Janine leaves for a vacation, an entity spies on the Ghostbusters and Slimer unnoticed. Then, the guys start interviewing potential substitute secretaries, the first being an old woman named Mrs. Attlemeyer. However, everyone except Egon hates her and runs off to do chores instead, leaving him in charge of interviewing her. He finds that she's very competent and considers hiring her, but the others convince him not to.

Then, a new applicant arrives, named Dixie, and despite her being too thick to even find "D" on the keyboard, she's hired instantly because everyone except Egon finds her hot. They start dressing in suits and giving her flowers, and Slimer kisses her and Peter gives her chocolate. However, she then starts scarfing the chocolate down like an animal, making Egon suspicious.

That evening, he tries to catch up with her before she leaves, but she vanishes, revealing herself to be a ghost. The next morning, she comes back and hypnotises Egon into kissing her. Then, she changes her face into a scary form and frightens Slimer away.

Then, two male Southern ghosts show up and reveal themselves to be Dixie's brothers. They want her to marry Egon, and imply that they will kill him so that they're not parted by death. Egon pretends he wants to bake the wedding cake, then blows something up. The guys pretend the explosion killed Egon, lie him on the couch, and Slimer rises from his body and pretends to be Egon's spirit.

During the ceremony, Slimer plays a "song" that's just scraping a blackboard, then throws a bouquet with wolfsbane in it that makes the ghosts' faces temporarily melt. When Slimer kisses Dixie, she slimes her, which makes her call off the wedding. Then, their new secretary arrives, who turns out to be Egon's mother, who embarrasses them all.

This episode provides examples of

  • Abhorrent Admirer: Played for Horror — Dixie has an unrequited crush on Egon... so she wants to kill him so they can get married.
  • Ahem: Egon clears his throat to get the others' attention when they're distracted by Dixie.
  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Egon blushes when his mother asks him and the others if they're wearing clean underwear in case they get in a car crash.
  • Bad "Bad Acting": When the guys are pretending Egon is dead, they get overly hammy with lines like "He was a true friend", and Peter sounds too emphatic when he says, "Look, it's Egon's spirit!".
  • Big Eater: Dixie eats a whole box of chocolates.
  • Blatant Lies: The guys lie that they liked Slimer's "song" despite blocking their ears the whole time.
  • Chick Magnet:
    • The only male characters who are not attracted to Dixie are either related to her or Egon.
    • Peter says that Egon seems to be popular with women, noting Janine and Dixie's attraction to him.
  • Chocolate of Romance: Peter tries to woo Dixie with chocolate.
  • Compressed Vice: The non-Egon Ghostbusters seem to dislike Mrs. Attlemeyer because she is old. However, they had no problem with old women in "The Thing in Mrs. Faversham's Attic".
  • Covered in Gunge: Slimer leaves ectoplasm all over Dixie when he kisses her.
  • Dead All Along: Dixie initially seems human, but then turns out to be a ghost.
  • Distracted by the Sexy: Peter, Ray, Winston, and Slimer gape and forget what they were doing the moment Dixie walks in.
  • Dumb Blonde: Zigzagged — Dixie is blonde and seemingly can't find the "D" key on the keyboard, but she turns out to be evil, so maybe it was an act, but she could have still been a stupid ghost.
  • Ectoplasm: Exploited when Slimer gets Dixie to call off the wedding by sliming her.
  • Everyone Loves Blondes: Dixie, whom everyone except Egon falls in love with, is blonde.
  • Evil All Along: It isn't until about halfway through that Dixie is revealed as the villain.
  • Face of an Angel, Mind of a Demon: Dixie's default look is rather pretty, but she wants to kill Egon.
  • Faking the Dead: Egon pretends to die as part of the trick against Dixie.
  • Foreshadowing: Dixie being a ghost is foreshadowed by there being a mysterious entity outside the building prior, and her having a similar appetite to Slimer.
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom: Dixie's brothers intimidate the Ghostbusters and Slimer by making their eyes glow.
  • Goofy Print Underwear: Egon wears black boxers with multicoloured spots.
  • Grumpy Old Man: Or woman — Mrs. Attlemeyer is an elderly woman who snaps and yells a lot.
  • Half-Witted Hillbilly: Zigzagged — it's unknown if the Southern-accented Dixie really is too dumb to find "D" on the computer, or if she was Obfuscating Stupidity.
  • Hayseed Name: The Southern ghost is named Dixie and one of her brothers is named Jim Bob.
  • I'm Melting!: Downplayed when the wolfsbane makes the ghosts' faces briefly melt.
  • Implied Death Threat: When Peter points out that Egon can't marry Dixie as he's still alive, her brothers ominously agree.
  • Lightmare Fuel: Egon's life is in danger, but the wedding is still mostly played for laughs, with Slimer impersonating Egon and playing a "song" that consists of him scraping the blackboard.
  • Love Makes You Dumb: The non-Egon Ghostbusters, plus Slimer, are so smitten with Dixie that they hire her instantly despite her incompetence.
  • Love Triangle: Peter, Ray, Winston, and Slimer all love Dixie, but she loves Egon.
  • The Napoleon: Mrs. Attlemeyer is very short and yells a lot.
  • Nightmare Face: Dixie morphs her face into a freaky, otherworldly one to scare Slimer.
  • Not So Stoic: Egon blushes when his mother embarrasses him.
  • Ocular Gushers: When Slimer cries over missing Janine, the tears spray out.
  • Only Sane Man: The only character to not become giddy with love over Dixie is Egon.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: One of Dixie's shady brothers has red eyes.
  • Say My Name: The other Ghostbusters yell Egon's name when he pretends to die.
  • Sexophone: When Dixie arrives, saxophone music plays to signify that everyone except Egon is attracted to her.
  • Sexy Secretary: Dixie, who was hired as a temp secretary, attracts all the guys except Egon.
  • Speak in Unison:
    • At one point, Winston, Ray, Peter, and Slimer greet Dixie in unison.
    • When the other Ghostbusters are pretending Egon is dead, they yell his name in unison.
  • Sweet Tooth: Dixie scarfs down Peter's chocolates.
  • Through His Stomach: Peter tries to win over Dixie with a box of chocolates.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: Dixie has the ability to change her face.
  • Wedding Episode: Played for horror and later defied — a ghost named Dixie wants to marry Egon, and it's implied she'd kill him so they won't be parted by death, but the other guys trick her into cancelling the wedding.
  • Wolf Whistle: Peter wolf-whistles when Slimer kisses Dixie.
