Tropes

  • The Ace: Billy's new-founded gang racks up a huge bodycount and collects millions from other gangs within a few days.
  • Actually Pretty Funny: Frank cracks up when Amy says "Flustercluck".
  • Alone with the Psycho: Russo surprises Madani in her apartment.
  • Asshole Victims: Anyone who's really dumb enough to go after the bounty that's on Frank and Amy surely had it coming, especially the one who thinks they can outnumber Frank and the ones who believe Amy is alone at the apartment building who didn't last very long when Frank stepped in.
  • Borrowed Biometric Bypass: After killing a guy, Frank uses his dead hand to unlock his phone. He can be seen later unlocking the same phone with the guy's cut-off thumb.
  • Broken Pedestal: Danny had looked up to Pilgrim when he was part of the Nazi gang, until he left the group.
  • Bullying a Dragon: Some random lowlifes think a 6 to 1 advantage is enough to take on Frank and collect the bounty. He disabuses them of that notion in less than half a minute.
  • Call-Back: Pilgrim uses the mug shots from earlier in the season to place a bounty on Frank and Amy.
  • Call-Forward: Pilgrim warns that revisiting his past to send out the bounty might "open some doors". Schultz thinks he's talking about the people in his past. Pilgrim's talking about himself. Another sign that Pilgrim's a true believer in a way that Schultz isn't.
  • Chekhov's Skill: Amy finally puts to use the technique Frank taught her to disarm someone pointing a gun at her.
  • Concealment Equals Cover: Averted. Castle shoots gang members on the landing above him by firing through the stairs.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Billy tells one of his gang members to stop sexually harassing a barmaid.
  • Exact Words: No, Amy, you did not kill the bounty hunter. You just shot him. Frank, however...
  • False Friend: Shantel pretends to have Amy's back and to be helping her get new papers to leave New York. In truth she's stringing her along in hopes of cashing on the reward on Amy's head.
  • Groin Attack: A rare female-on-female example, when Amy kicks Shantel right in the vulva as payback for trying to sell her out for the reward.
  • Heroic BSoD: Amy starts to go into one after she shoots the guy holding her hostage. Frank snaps her out of it by finishing the guy himself so she doesn't have his death on her conscience.
  • I Hate Past Me: John Pilgrim meets a few old acquaintances again, Neo-Nazis, just like he used to be. Despite still being a criminal, he clearly is not proud of his racist past.
  • I Owe You My Life: Pilgrim became loyal to the Schultzes after they saved him from prison and showed him another way.
  • Ignored Epiphany: Despite hearing from Madani what he did both to her and his friends, Billy doesn't make a too big deal out of it and continues as if nothing happened.
  • Internal Reveal: Billy learns from Madani what he did to Frank.
  • Interplay of Sex and Violence: Billy having sex with Krista is intercut with Billy and his gang doing their raids.
  • It's All About Me: Despite learning that he betrayed Frank and had a direct hand in the death of his family, Billy still thinks that what Frank did to him was not justified and that he needs to suffer like he did.
  • Leave No Survivors: While doing their raids Billy's gang ruthlessly kill everyone armed or unarmed in the drug dens, including women.
  • Malaproper: The episode's title, which is what Amy says after seeing just how little Frank is bothered by killing.
  • Malevolent Masked Men: Billy's gang are all wearing the same type of painted hospital mask that he uses.
  • Oh, Crap!: Curtis, when Frank tells him that there is a bounty on himself and Amy, as he left the latter behind earlier.
  • Pet the Dog: Billy turns up in Madani's apartment, but even though he can't remember their past relationship, he leaves without killing her.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Amy decides to leave NYC and make a run for it. She doesn't get very far before Shantel sells her out.
  • That Man Is Dead: John Pilgrim's real name was Robert. He left that name behind along with his racist ways. Unfortunately his former neo-Nazi group have different ideas.
  • Undying Loyalty: The veterans from Curtis' support group are firmly on his side, even though Jake joined Billy, and promise to help him fight the gang.
  • Visionary Villain: Anderson Schultz has big plans both for his son David as well as for the country once his son is to become president.
