Recap / The Proud Family S 2 E 28 Twins To Tweens

Go To

Tired of babysitting her siblings, Penny wishes for them to be old enough to take over themselves.

Tropes:

  • Abusive Parents: In addition to all of Penny's friends leaving her for the aged BeBe and CeCe, the whole family starts favoring the twins to the point of neglecting Penny at best and essentially reducing her to a slave at worst. Trudy in particular gives Penny's room to CeCe, while also buying new matching furniture, wallpaper and a canopy bed while throwing out Penny's bed, reducing her to having to use a sleeping bag in the corner, and later tells Penny she’s "plain" when she buys new midriff tops for CeCe when she doesn’t allow Penny to wear them. Oscar and Sugar Mama forget Penny's name, the latter giving CeCe the last of the orange juice after she poured it for Penny, and though Trudy still sympathizes with Penny enough to force the twins to take her to the mall she still confirms she's going to make Penny do the twins laundry later.
    • The plot was also kickstarted by Oscar and Trudy once again forcing Penny to cancel her plans last minute so she can watch the twins, which is a common occurrence not exclusive to this episode.
  • As Himself: Al Roker, again.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Penny wishes that her infant siblings were old enough to take care of themselves so she wouldn't have to babysit them. While it allows her to go places unhindered, her now-teen siblings quickly steal the love and admiration of her friends and family. One of the reasons why is lampshaded in this exchange:
Penny: I’m the oldest, I changed both of your diapers.
Cece: See? That’s why nobody likes you.
  • Blackmail: After learning from Al Roker that he would lose his powers if his boss learns that he made his wish client unhappy, Penny uses this to make him reset the day so that her siblings are back to babies, after being fed up with them taking the spotlight, and everyone forgets what happened.
  • Continuity Nod: LaCienega once again wears shoes outside the pool, because she doesn't want people seeing her large feet.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Penny gets this treatment from her friends after the twins, who she mistakenly wished for to be older so she wouldn’t be forced to babysit all the time, take over her popularity.
  • Freudian Excuse: The reason why nobody likes Penny anymore, according to CeCe, is simply because she is the oldest.
  • Immediate Self-Contradiction: Suga Mama contradicts her words that Penny would not allow herself to be mistreated or ignored after giving CeCe a glass of orange juice intended for Penny and forgetting her name.
  • Never My Fault: Penny treats getting dissed by Myron as the last straw when everyone else is treating her poorly because of her aged up siblings. However, Myron's treatment of Penny is the only instance that had absolutely nothing to do with BeBe and CeCe in any way, and was in retaliation for Penny being mean to him earlier in the episode.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Really happens to all of Penny's friends and family, but upon becoming teenagers the aged twins are very nasty and uncaring towards their now younger sister.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Despite how she is being treated throughout the episode, Penny for the most part kept her cool even while being upset with the others. However, she loses it once she gets turned down by Myron, a nerd, saying that getting dissed by a nerd like him was the last straw and calls out to Roker to change everything back.
  • Reset Button: Not only does Penny in the end wish for the twins to be babies again, but also adds that everyone who has witnessed teenaged BeBe and CeCe have their memories of them wiped. The next day after, the adults repeat more or less the same actions they did at the beginning of the episode.
