Recap / The Proud Family S 2 E 14 Adventures In Bebe Sitting

Go To

Penny and Dijonay are stuck babysitting their younger siblings together, leaving them unable to attend a 3rd Storee concert that they bought tickets to from the Gross Sisters. Dijonay, however, ditches Penny to go to the concert, forcing Penny to venture out with a bunch of rowdy little kids to track down her so-called friend. At the same time, Oscar and Trudy go to marriage counseling.

Tropes:

  • As Themselves: 3rd Storee.
  • Anvil on Head: One of the marriage counsel exercises involves these being dropped on the husbands' heads. Fortunately, they just turn out to be water balloons.
  • Easily Forgiven: Penny and Dijonay make peace in the end as per Status Quo Is God.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: Dijonay, LaCienega, Zoe, and Penny trusting that the Gross sisters would actually give them real concert tickets.
  • Karmic Nod: It takes a while for her to get the message, but Dijonay realizes Penny's not coming to get her like she did her other friends, not after what she did. As she puts it, "Real friends don't run out on you and leave you with your nine wild brothers and sisters and expect for you to get them into the concert." She accepts that there's no way Penny is going to come get her for her horrible treatment.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Dijonay, LaCienega and Zoe as usual get to do something fun while Penny is on the short end of the stick and Dijonay heightens this when she leaves Penny to attend the concert and lies about Penny letting her go. But the karma gods are not mocked; the tickets that the trio got from the Gross Sisters turn out to be counterfeit and Penny and Dijonay's siblings deny knowing Dijonay for ditching them.
  • The "Reason I Suck Speech": Dijonay gives a short, direct one to herself after Penny pretends to not know her:
Dijonay: Real friends don't run out on you and leave you with your nine wild brothers and sisters and expect for you to get them into the concert.
  • Screams Like a Little Girl: Oscar and the husbands do this when Dr. Phil Good bounds them to chair. He even refers to them as "girly men".
  • Straw Misogynist: The husbands seem to have this attitude.
  • Sweet and Sour Grapes: Penny doesn't let Dijonay into the concert like the latter keeps expecting, not until Dijonay realizes she's been an awful friend lately and accepts she doesn't deserve Penny's good graces.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Penny and Dijonay's siblings don't hesitate to call her out for abandoning them so she could go to the concert. Especially when Dijonay shamelessly tries to get back into their good graces so she can attend the concert with them. The Jones kids pretend to claim that she is not related to them.
Dijonay: Girl, you won't believe this! Those tickets were phony!
Penny: Oh, you mean like you?
  • With Friends Like These...: Dijonay ditches Penny to go to the concert while the latter is stuck babysitting by herself.
  • Women Are Wiser: Lampshaded by Dr. Phil Good: "Ladies, you can do a lot better."
