This episode contains examples of:

  • Bland-Name Product: The episode revolves around the making of a blandly-named equivalent of a Super Bowl ad spot.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Jarod helps an effects technician, Mickey Clausen, who's been blamed after one of his effects went wrong and seriously injured a stunt man. Trying to persuade him not to give up, Jarod starts pointing around Mickey's workshop and listing significant effects and gadgets Mickey has created over the course of his career. Later in the episode, Jarod uses one of those gadgets when he's bringing down the villain of the week.
  • I Am a Monster: Miss Parker, Sydney and Broots investigate a boy named Timmy that was subjected to then-Dr. Raines' experiments. Something went horribly wrong, with Timmy gaining empathic powers at the cost of his own mind. Timmy became Angelo, who is aware of his past and mourns his former self.
    Angelo: Timmy's gone.
  • Incredibly Obvious Bomb: In-universe, a stunt action sequence features a prop bomb with a large illuminated countdown timer on it.
  • Polar Bears and Penguins: In-universe, the ad Jarod's helping make features two idiot protagonists so lost that they've ended up in the Arctic, signified by snow, ice, polar bears, Santa Claus, and of course penguins.
  • Prima Donna Director: Jarod has to work with one... who's making beer commercials. The ad company executive remarks that he's pretentious and insecure but does make good commercials.
  • Proscenium Reveal: The episode opens with a scene with Miss Parker, in which she mentions that the Centre has set extra Sweepers out after Jarod and states that it's only a matter of time before they find him, then cuts to Jarod fleeing desperately from a group of men in a Van in Black. After they chase him into a building and then blow up the building, it's revealed that they're actors and he's giving a demonstration of his skill-set in his job-of-the-week as a stunt co-ordinator.
  • Take That!: Jarod is working with the effects crew shooting a beer commercial. This entails him having the premise of the commercial explained to him:
Jarod: So let me get this straight: There are people out there who will buy your beer based upon two guys who are not only too ignorant to read a map, but simple-minded enough to drive through an exploding billboard?
Beer company executive: That's our target market!
  • Two Aliases, One Character: The Centre team spend the episode trying to find out what happened to a boy named Timmy who was experimented on at the Centre, including trying to rope in recurring supporting character Angelo to help with the search. It's only at the end of the episode that they learn that Angelo is Timmy, or what's left of him.
  • Wham Line: The big revelation to then-Dr. Raines' work with Timmy.
Raines: There is no Timmy anymore. From now on he shall be called Angelo.
