Go To

Original air date: 9/19/2003

Production code: PPG-508

Burglar Alarmed: The girls realize that the Professor is tired after preparing for his dissertation, so when a burglar new to Townsville tries to rob them, the girls try to stop him without waking up the Professor.

Shotgun Wedding: The Professor tries to figure out just what species Fuzzy Lumpkins is, but when he accidentally gets covered in mud and flowers, it makes him look like a Lumpkin, which Fuzzy falls in love with and tries to marry.

Burglar Alarmed provides examples of:

  • Achievement In Ignorance: The Professor saves the situation by punching the burglar out cold, while still being fast asleep. Even the Narrator points out the Professor probably doesn’t even know what he just did.
  • Cassandra Truth: At first, Buttercup and Blossom don’t believe Bubbles that there is a burglar in the house.
  • Delayed Reaction: Both Bubbles and the crook have this when they run into each other in the kitchen. Bubbles reaction doesn’t fully come until she gets back to bed.
  • Drama-Preserving Handicap: If the girls weren't considerate enough to try and avoid waking the Professor, the episode would be over in about three minutes.
  • Hostage Situation: The burglar makes his way to the Professor's bedroom and threatens to “scream the Professor's head off” if the girls get any closer.
  • I Have to Go Iron My Dog: When the burglar realizes who he is dealing with, he nervously tries to make his way out of the house while claiming he has an appointment on the other side of the street, and later that he has a train to catch.
  • Midnight Snack: Bubbles discovers the burglar when she goes down to the kitchen for some milk.
  • Mugging the Monster: Try to imagine run-of-the-mill burglar breaking into the Batcave. Breaking into the Powerpuffs' house is on the same level.
  • Oh, Crap!: Buttercup and Blossom have this reaction when a still sleepy Bubbles casually mentions she saw a man taking their stuff in the kitchen. At first at least, since they quickly dismiss the story.
    • The burglar has a similar reaction when he realizes the girls have super powers.
  • Overworked Sleep: The Professor suffers from this again, kicking off the plot of the episode.
  • Scooby-Dooby Doors: Between the girls and the burglar, who is hiding inside a lamp. It Makes Sense in Context.
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: The main villain of the episode is just an ordinary, non-super powered burglar. The only reason he lasts as long as he does against the girls is because the Girls absolutely don’t want to wake the Professor up and thus have to hold back. In the end, the Professor simply punches him out.
  • So Much for Stealth: Buttercup and Blossom realize Bubbles is right when the burglar accidentally knock a trash can over.
  • Stupid Crooks: The Big Bad of the episode. First he targets the house of the Powerpuff Girls, and at the end of the episode its implied he will try to rob Mojo Jojo next. This is lampshaped by Buttercup who questions who would want to rob them and the Narrator who states that he feels sorry for the crook when he decides to do the latter.

Shotgun Wedding provides examples of:

  • Abduction Is Love: Fuzzy seems to believe so.
  • And Now You Must Marry Me: When Fuzzy finds the Professor in his house and mistakes him for a female lumpkin, he immediately wants to marry “her”.
  • Artistic License – Biology: A koala is shown on the chart of "bears of the world", despite koalas being marsupials.
  • Bigfoot, Sasquatch, and Yeti: The Professor speculates that Fuzzy might be a Sasquatch. The picture in his file folder even looks very much a like a frame from the famous Patterson-Gimlin Bigfoot film.
  • Big "NO!": The Professor when he thinks he is finally safe, only to realize he actually ran back to Fuzzy’s house and Fuzzy is right behind him.
  • The Cameo: The Amoeba Boys, Mojo Jojo, HIM, the Gangrene Gang, and Sedusa all have cameos in photographs in the Professor's lab. Yogi Bear also cameo’s on a chart of “bears of the world”.
  • Conservation of Ninjutsu: Whenever Fuzzy Lumpkins is alone, he is often depicted as being on par with the girls in physical strength. In this episode a whole group of Lumpkinses shows up at Fuzzy’s wedding, and the girls defeat them with ease.
  • Covered in Mud: The Professor ends up like this when being chased by Fuzzy.
  • Curiosity Is a Crapshoot: Curiosity about the origin of Fuzzy is what lands the Professor in trouble.
  • A Day In The Lime Light: Profesor Utonium is the main character in this episode. The girls don’t even appear until the second half of the episode, and their only contribution to the plot is that they rescue the professor from Fuzzy.
  • Let Us Never Speak of This Again: The Professor makes it clear at the end of the episode that he never wants to talk about this humiliating experience with Fuzzy again. To prove his point, he eats his notebook.
  • Look Behind You: Fuzzy does this to the professor so he can knock him out.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: The girls get this reaction when they realize that the last “really ugly Lumpkin” they beat up was actually the Professor.
  • Oh, Crap!: The Utoniums
    • The Professor when he realizes it is HIM the Lumkin is smelling and thus about to attack.
    • The Powerpuff Girls when they realize that they indirectly beat up the Professor.
  • Rage Breaking Point: At the end, after the Girls make a few jokes at the Professor's expense, the Professor shouts at them to not remind him of this experience ever again.
  • Shout-Out: A part of the Professor's documentary about the Lumpkin is shot like The Blair Witch Project and other Found Footage Films.
    • A possible one could be in this shot of the Gangreen Gang; the way Ace is writing "Gangreen" seems very similar to the Gorillaz logo, and one could even argue that they're supposed to be parodying this artwork of the band. Hilarious in Hindsight, considering Ace later joined Gorillaz.
  • Shot Gun Wedding: It’s even lampshaded in the episodes title, though the episode plays it more as a parody than as a straight example.
  • Wing Ding Eyes: Fuzzy’s pupils get heart shaped when he sees the mud covered professor and mistakes him for a female.
