While trick-or-treating, the girls are captured by a giant monster squash who will release them if they tell him a story that will frighten him.

- Adaptational Wimp: In her story, Buttercup portrays Blossom as a scared weakling with a Complexity Addiction.
- Answer Cut: Buttercup is Tempting Fate when she asks “What could go wrong?” after suggesting to trick-or-treat at the spooky mansion. The answer to that question comes after the cut, with the girls being held captive by a giant squash monster.
- Berserk Button: As the girls find out, mistaking the squash monster for a pumpkin is not a good idea.
- Brain Food: Parodied. The zombie bread in Buttercup’s story are hungry for “Graaaaains!”
- Dracula: Shows up at the end of Buttercup's story, but the squash monster stops her before anything can happen.

- Frankenstein's Monster: The basis of Blossom's story which parodies Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. Bubbles even plays The Igor.
- Genre Shift: After Buttercup and Blossom tell stories that are horror-related, Bubbles is more of a romantic comedy and the one that makes the monster let them go.
