The girls watch a food competition on TV, but one of the contestants uses science on his dish, which mutates it into a food monster. The girls go to stop it, but during the fight, Buttercup taps into a new power that allow her to make hard light constructs of anything she can imagine. Bubbles likewise manages to acquire the power as well, but Blossom, however, can't seem to manage it, and starts to feel useless as a result.

- Break the Cutie: Blossom gets this big time after thinking she's useless.
- Empathic Environment: When Blossom makes her way through the city streets, it's raining, and she floats by stores advertising new and improved devices, then a dumpster with a cracked mirror and the words "useless junk" over it, and the mirror shatters when she looks at it. She breaks down in tears at the last one.Blossom: OKAY, I GET IT! (Sobs)
- Expressive Accessory: Blossom's bow droops due to depression after Buttercup attempts (and only makes things worse) to defend Blossom from her lack of new powers from the other kids.
- Hard Light: The girls' new power has them make energy based objects to help them fight tougher monsters when their normal powers aren't enough.
- Here We Go Again!: A mid-story example. When the girls tune into another episode of the food competition, the same scientist cook is invited back for another chance... with the same results, only with a pimento loaf this time.
- Not Helping Your Case: When Bubbles and Buttercup try to defend Blossom for not having the same powers from one of the students, they only make her feel even more useless.
- Out of Order: Blossom displayed the construct power in a previous episode ("Little Octi Lost") yet this was the episode where the girls gain them.
- Personality Powers: The constructs the girls use are reflective of their personalities.
- Buttercup loves action, so her constructs are weapon and vehicle based.
- Bubbles loves animals, so her constructs involve animals.
- Blossom is very orderly and a bit of a neat freak, so her constructs are orderly objects, like staplers and vacuums.
- Rousing Speech: Blossom gives one to Bubbles and Buttercup after they suffered a Curb-Stomp Battle at the hands of the pimento loaf monster. It's also what finally allows her to use light constructs powers.

- The new powers are obviously taking cues from Green Lantern. What makes it funnier is that the girls initial tie in comic book from their original run was published by DC Comics.
- The "Sliced" show the girls watch is one toward Chopped.
- Successful Sibling Syndrome: Blossom feels greatly inferior to her sisters when they get upgrades in their powers and she doesn't...not yet at least.
