Nitwit Neighborhood News

Original air date: 7/22/22

Patrick has a news show, and he goes out into the neighborhood to look for interesting pieces to report. This culminates in an unexpected interruption of a robbery, in which Patrick mistakes the perpetrator for a celebrity and accidentally assists in his scheme.

Nitwit Neighborhood News contains examples of:

  • Affably Evil: Despite being a criminal, Tony is actually quite nice to Patrick and answers his interview questions. He even buys him lunch and offers to let him be an accomplice.
  • Alliterative Name: The criminal is named Tony Tuna.
  • Alliterative Title: Nitwit Neighborhood News.
  • Comically Missing the Point: When Squidina gets out of the boat to stand on the hood and record SpongeBob, Mrs. Puff worries that it's unsafe. Squidina claims that she's fine because she has her seatbelt on... even though it's not strapped to the seat anymore.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: Tony threatens Mr. Krabs by taking a woman's baby and aiming a stinky diaper at him, akin to an armed robbery. He calls it a "stink-up" and Mr. Krabs even shouts, "Don't aim that thing at me!"
  • Donut Mess with a Cop: Patrick interviews a cop by asking what his favorite donut flavor is.
  • The Door Slams You: Before Patrick can exit Tony's hideout, Perch enters and slams the door on him.
  • Doorstopper: SpongeBob's driving handbook is a giant book that crushes Patrick and Squidina.
  • Hurricane of Puns: Tony makes a bunch of puns on "sap" as he frames Patrick, Squidina, Perch, and Harvey for his crime.
  • Idiot Ball: The usually smart and responsible Squidina acts a lot stupider here. She's unable to tell that Tony is actually a criminal, even when she's directly in her hideout, and falls for the same scheme as Patrick.
  • Improbable Weapon User: Patrick and Perch clash with microphones, in a manner similar to a swordfight. Squidina and Harvey do the same with their handheld cameras.
  • Kidnapper's KFC: Tony buys Patrick lunch from the Krusty Krab before taking him back to his criminal hideout.
  • Literal Metaphor:
    • Patrick "digs deep" to find good news to report. He takes out a jackhammer and digs a big hole.
    • When SpongeBob is told to "hit the brakes" while driving, he gets down on the floor of the boat and physically slams the gas pedal down.
    • Tony literally takes candy from a baby.
    • GrandPat wins a race "by a nose." We see a snapshot of him holding out a cutout of a nose on a stick to pass the finish line first.
  • Malaproper: Patrick thinks a criminal (whom he mistakes for a celebrity) is wearing a Suspicious Ski Mask so "he won't be noticed by pepperoni!" He means "paparazzi", and Squidina corrects him.
  • One Dialogue, Two Conversations: Annoyed by Patrick's stupidity, Mrs. Puff asks, "Would you please just go?" SpongeBob thinks she's talking to him and starts driving the boat.
  • Out-of-Character Moment: Mr. Krabs lets himself get robbed a common criminal. He doesn't try to fight back, run away, or even show any bit of protectiveness against his money. It's not a case of Badass Decay on the show, either, since "Pearl Wants to Be a Star" (just two episodes earlier) had him bragging about all the badass feats his did in his navy days, and portrays him as still quick-witted and capable.
  • Police Are Useless: Zigzagged. Patrick and Squidina are arrested because of reporters annoying people around town, which they did do. However, Perch and Harvey, who were at the scene solely for the crime report, are arrested as well. The actual criminal gets away with everything and even becomes a news reporter himself.
  • Running Gag: Patrick shoves his microphone into the nose of everyone he meets, before asking them questions.
  • Shout-Out: After Tony buys something from the Krusty Krab, Mr. Krabs says, "Thank you, come again!"
  • Suspicious Ski Mask: Exploited. Patrick and Squidina end up in the hideout of wanted criminal Tony Tuna, who is always seen with a purple ski mask over his head. When the police surround Tony, he puts ski masks over Patrick and Squidina (as well as visiting reporters Perch and Harvey, with the former getting Tony's purple mask) and pushes them all outside, leading the police to think they're the criminals and arrest them.
  • Visual Pun: As the text "Breaking News" slides across, it crumbles against the edge of the screen.
  • "Wanted!" Poster: Tony Tuna's face is plastered on posters and billboards. Patrick still can't tell he's a criminal.

Mid-Season Finale

Original air date: 7/22/22

It's the mid-season finale of the Patrick Show. Time to really crank up the Variety Show antics!

Mid-Season Finale contains examples of:

  • 2D Visuals, 3D Effects: The episode contains an aerial battle using the houses of Patrick and Grandma Tentacles. The houses are done in noticeable CG.
  • Back for the Finale: The episode features cameos by one-off characters like Crabina and Finkle (from "Squidina's Little Helper") and the Flim Flam Brothers (from "The Haunting of Star House").
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: When Patrick and Squidina can't figure out how to end the episode, they use a TV remote and fast forward through the rest of it so they can reach that point.
  • Continuity Cavalcade: This episode is loaded with character cameos from previous episodes.
  • Funny Background Event: Perch sustains multiple injuries from trying to interview Patrick and Squidina. At the end of the scene, he can be seen being carried off on a stretcher in the background.
  • Literal Metaphor: Cecil is proud of how far Patrick has gone. Zoom out to show him about to launch Squidina from a catapult: "Now let's see how far our daughter goes!" He and Bunny end up getting launched instead, though.
  • Malaproper: Patrick reminds the audience to "stay turned" for his show.
  • Milestone Celebration: The episode is both an in-universe and meta one. It's the final episode of the first half of the season, and the episode celebrates this milestone. As the season was extended from 13 to 26 episodes late in production, it may also have been intended as a season finale.
  • One-Joke Fake Show: That's Tinkle seems to consist of just one joke. People run up to Tinkle and ask if someone fell in a well, and Tinkle bites them in the butt and makes them fall down. The skit cuts off, and when it reappears at the end of the episode, we see a bunch of people crammed in the well.
  • Random Events Plot: The episode takes the form of a rapid-fire Sketch Comedy along the lines of Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In. This includes Squidina morphing into a killer ventriloquist dummy, a prehistoric Game Show, a search for the episode's ending, Cecil and Bunny acting out a Victorian romance story (which gets derailed by Squidward and a mime), and GrandPat and Grandma Tentacles having a sky battle using their houses.
  • Seasonal Rot:invoked Parodied. Following a fart joke by Patrick, Grandma Tentacles comments that "The Patrick Show has really gone downhill since the first three episodes."
  • So Proud of You: Bunny and Cecil are featured on the special, commenting on how proud they are of Patrick for his show getting so far.
