Chapter 12: The Witch of the Wilds

Luz explains to Uodeela, the magic teacher of Lilly, Gustav and Amara, how she came to Amphibia and ends up helping her attack some toads.

Tropes That Appear In This Chapter:

  • An Arm and a Leg: Uodeela gets her hand cut off by a toad soldier. Since she's a salamander, she has a Healing Factor but it'll still take 2 weeks for it to grow back.
  • Berserk Button: Lilly doesn't take Amara calling her species plebeian lying down.
  • Change the Uncomfortable Subject: When Luz begins to explain who Anne is to Lilly, she begins to remember what happened between them and admits they really might not be friends anymore before asking to talk about something else.
  • Flashback: The chapter ends with one occuring 1,000 years into the past when King Andrias' companions stole the Calamity Box from him.
  • The Ghost: Captain Grime is mentioned by some toad soldiers. Maddie, her father and Gustav's father are also mentioned by Uodeela and King Andrias is mentioned in the flashback.
  • An Ice Person: Uodeela uses an ice spell to freeze a toad soldier in a block of ice.
  • Major Injury Underreaction: Uodeela is very casual to losing her hand. Luz, however, is not.
  • Mythology Gag: In order to get Uodeela's help to get her home, Luz has to help her and one of her companions steal from an officer of the law, not unlike her helping Eda and King steal from Warden Wrath in "A Lying Witch and a Warden". Not to mention she freaks out when Uodeela's hand gets cut off just like she did when Eda was decapitated.
  • Retcon
  • Wham Episode, Luz is accepted as one of Uodeela's apprentices in learning magic, Uodeela is revealed to know about the Calamity Box, and Andrias had a fourth companion who helped the others steal the Calamity Box from him.
