Recap / The Omnitrix Hero S 4 E 9 Group Therapy

Go To

As Flash has a hard time getting used to his new alien Ghostfreak, he is attacked by a team of six of his previous enemies.

  • Bittersweet Ending: The six villains are all defeated and imprisoned, but Flash is left worried about what's happening with him after becoming an alien in his sleep and being told he almost killed Animac. What's more, even though the six criminals were beaten, their mysterious benefactor still got what they were after due to making sure the group secured a load of microchips first.
  • Bring My Brown Pants: As Ghostfreak approaches Animac once all of the other villains have been beaten, the silence from him becomes too much for Animac anymore and he ends up silently bricking himself before screaming at him to say something.
  • Expy: Doddery has become one to the Vulture, being an elderly villain with a winged suit that allows her to fly, with a touch of the Spider-Man: The Animated Series version by having talons that allow her to drain the youth out of others.
  • Hostage Situation:
    • The chapter opens with a gunman holding his former boss and fellow employees captive with two other gunmen, since he was fired from the software company for sabotaging one of his fellow employees right before he could finish his project and get paid the bonus he was promised and demands the money he feels he is owed.
    • During the second fight with the six villains, they try to force Flash to stand down by having The Hypnotist brainwash five citizens and make them stand on the edge of a bridge, threatening to make them jump, thinking he will care more about their safety than his own. However, Ghostfreak seems to flee and abandon the citizens, only to actually posses The Hypnotist and undo his brainwashing himself.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: Animac believes that Flash no longer joking and staying silent through the whole fight as Ghostfreak is a sign he is getting serious. It is subverted though in that Flash is quiet because his body is sleeping and is actually being controlled by Ghostfreak.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • Azmuth mentions how the perfected version of the Omnitrix won't be built for a few years; this is a reference to how Ben didn't receive it until he was sixteen, six years after he gained the prototype.
    • Ghostfreak paralyzing Animac with fear by showing him what's underneath his skin is like what he did to Zombozo in "Last Laugh".
  • Never My Fault: At the beginning of the chapter, a Hostage Situation involved a gunman who had a vendetta against the company he had taken hostage due to being fired and losing his invention. His former boss countered that he had sabotaged one of his fellow employees to get his invention made. The gunman refuses to accept he brought it on himself.
  • No-Sell: Doddery tries to use her Life Drain ability on Ghostfreak to restore her youth, but because Ghostfreak is a ghost and has no life force to drain, it doesn't work on him.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Flash's complete silence when dealing with the villains as Ghostfreak, not even cracking any jokes about them, is a major red flag that even has Shining and Trixie confused.
  • Offhand Backhand: Ghostfreak punches a cheetah snake mutant in the face without even turning to look at it as he slowly makes his way toward Animac.
  • Oh, Crap!: Upon seeing six of his enemies gathered together, Flash (as Firefly) gives a very appropriate "Hommana Hommana Hommana".
  • One-Man Army: Ghostfreak, who manages to single-handedly defeat the entire Legion of Doom on his own with frighting efficiency.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: The benefactor of the Legion of Doom as well as several members points out that going after Flash’s family to get to him would be a bad move; it could risk him deciding not to hold back on dealing with them. They'd all rather be in jail than dead.
  • Puppeteer Parasite: Ghostfreak takes over Flash's body while he's sleeping and defeats all six of the villains with brutal efficiency.
  • Villainous Breakdown: When Animac is the only one left against Ghostfreak, and the latter's continued silence finally starts to be too much for him, Animac freaks out and screams "SAY SOMETHING!"
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Shining yells at Flash over the phone at the end for nearly killing Animac, until Flash tells Shining he doesn't remember doing anything last night, and they both realize something is very wrong.
  • Whole-Plot Reference: This chapter is based on the episode of The Spectacular Spider-Man of the same name. Both involve the main character with a new strange power facing a Villain Team-Up of six of their villains, and defeating them in their sleep.
