Flash and his friends discover that Nelly, an overweight girl, has the Rapid Turtle Medallion and is using it to cheat to win races. As they try to get her to hand over the Medallion, Devious attacks her to try to get it, using his own new Medallion he recently obtained, the Mad Monkey Medallion.
- Brutal Honesty: Applejack bluntly calls Nelly fat, with her friends all wishing she was a bit more subtle about her honesty.
- Chekhov's Classroom: It is mentioned early on how Rainbow doesn't use her magic to win races because she considers it cheating and when preparing for her race it is mentioned how hard she works to train for her races, like waking up at five every morning and steering clear of unhealthy foods. She later mentions all this when explaining to Nelly how using her magic to cheat to win races is wrong and how she needs to put in the effort to be a real racer.
- No-Sell: Bushwhacker is Flash's only alien immune to the effects of the Mad Monkey Medallion.
- Power Misidentification: After winning the race, Trixie initially believes that Nelly has the Rush Rabbit Medallion that increases natural speed, which left the group bewildered as to why it went to a girl like her. Turns out she actually had the Rapid Turtle Medallion, which allows the user to slow time down, making it look like she was going faster.
- Sensory Abuse: The Mad Monkey Medallion's powers cause a type of vertigo effect and cause disorientation so they can't fight back properly.
- Simple Solution Won't Work: Once Trixie has the Rapid Turtle Medallion, she tries to use its powers to simply snatch the Medallions that Devious has. But when she tries she finds that they are too hot to touch, meaning she needs to beat him to take them.
- Story-Breaker Power: It is discussed briefly when Flash claims the ability to slow down time is pretty broken and what would have happened if Devious had gotten it. Though it is discussed how it does have weaknesses, like the user needing to replenish the energy lost between time stops by consuming a lot of food, and that someone less synchronized with the Medallion won't be able to slow down time as much or as long.
- Super-Speed: It initially seems like the Rapid Turtle Medallion grants its wielder this, only to be subverted when it turns out to actually be a form of time manipulation that slows down time for everyone except the user so they just appear to be going faster than everyone else.
- The Unreveal: Devious is seen obtaining the Mad Monkey Medallion in the opening scene of the chapter, but whoever its original wielder was is never revealed.
- You Are Fat: Nelly is subjected to multiple insults about being fat.
